    Does he have a logitech? Atleast my logitech cordless optical has 1 button on the side and I couldn't bind it. But now that I formated my comp and didn't install the drivers it works fine. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the logitech windows xp drivers. Oh well now it works perfectly (well if I bind it)...<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    This is bit off topic <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
    No he doesn't have logitech
    This is the mouse what he has: (except there is only one button at left side)

    going slightly off-topic to reply to Paq here, but i have one of those mice (except, as u say with one button on each side, rather than 2 on the left), and mine works fine, i can bind every button on it without problems. If its USB, try just plugging it in without installing any drivers and (assuming of course your friend is using XP) Windows should just instantly recognise it, and viola, you should be able to bind all 5 buttons even in CS.

    Logitech couldn't write a driver to make bananas turn brown. Every Logitech mouse I ever used worked better with the default windows driver.

    I need to get me one of those, years of playing FPS with the arrow keys might be leading to repetitive wrist strain syndrome. Whats it like to use, and is it easy to get used to?

    I use arrow keys too, right and left arrows defined to strafe, and ctrl for crouch, and keypad 0 for jump, keypad 1 for reload.

    Those are the best keys because it allows you to jump and reload at the same time, and crouch too.

    I heard that you can get a contraption to stick to your arrow keys to turn them into a mini-joystick, which will allow better diagonal movement, anyone know about this??

    awsd for movement, mouse1=fire, mouse2=duck, mouse 3=use, mwheelup=reload, mwheeldown=lastinv, mouse4=popupmenu, mouse5=walk, space=jump, v=voicechat.

    Btw, I use the same mouse as Paq. Go into your drivers and set (or just check) what key you have mouse4 and mouse5 bound to. If it's nothing, give it something (ctrl, shift, delete, enter are good ones). Then it'll work but it will still show in the config as it being bound to whatever your driver has the button set to instead of mouse4-5.

    ooookay i know what you're wondering. i bound all the lower keys to different impulses for when i play alien. after i make a kill, i will mash those buttons simply because chuckle 10 times per second gets kinda boring. the other growls and roars are more interesting <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> incidentally, they have uses on marine side, although i dont always remember what they are.

    movement: rdfg
    attack: mouse1
    jump: mouse2
    duck: z/x (in case i miss, my pinky sucks =()
    use: mouse3
    comm menu: t
    reload: r
    weapons: 1234/ as well as b:1 v:2
    voice com: space (seems wierd, but; it frees up all my other fingers for movement or anything else. I can't stand when I'm talking and some guy attacks me and I have to either let go of voice comm or move like a retarded donkey to avoide the guy)
    Walk: shift

    Used this since my days in q1. Was useful for quake, with the wide variety of weapons. Using asdw limits you to that area around it, while rdfg is more in the middle. I can hit 1-0 without looking down, because I've used it for so long.

    I thought one of my friends had the craziest setup ever, till now.

    I'd like to ask you (and everyone else who does it), why do you invert the mouselook? I'll tell you why I do it in a moment, but I'd like to hear other people's reasons. I mean, it does seem odd when I think about it, to make down up and up down. It's it counter-intuitive or something?

    As for me, I started inverting mouselook because of Tie Fighter. I played tons and tons of Tie Fighter (and it's addons) way back in 1996, and it defaulted to inverted controls. I didn't have a joystick back then, so I used the mouse control option. Needless to say I've never been the same since. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    I have a Wall-walk toggle that I use for Skulking which is bound to Z
    I have two seperate scripts with Radio bindings and Evolutions for Aliens and Marines. The script bind's each team's taunt to Mouse3 for handy chuckle-spam or alien taunting action.

    Why? I dunno, really...I started FPS back on Duke Nukem 3D, and the inverted mouse was just easier for me to control, felt more natural to me. I tried non-inverted, and I just can't get used to it.

    Arrow keys: movement, and strafing
    shift: jump
    enter: walk toggle
    ctrl: crouch
    mouse1: fire
    mouse2: slot1 (I spent far too long playing TFC as a spy, needing my knife as close as possible)
    mouse3: +voicerecord
    ': reload
    DEL: chuckle
    INS: flashlight
    HOME: Flayra's wonderous menu (which I hardly use any more since the BFCAS)
    mousewheel: BFCAS
    backspace: use
    [: slot2
    ]: slot3
    \: slot4

    I also use inverted mouse. It just makes SENSE. I guess maybe it is a remant from flight sims (the first game I ever played was an ancient flightsim called LHX attack helicopter). It just makes more sense to me that you push forward to "nose down" and pull back to "pull up", as if your mouse is on the head of a joystick.

    Suprised more of you don't use the alt and space for strafing (with mouse buttons for forward/back) and shoot with ctrl..

    Some clannies that played FLF used it, and I tried it out once. Its pretty good, but it hurts your brain for awhile if you've been using WASD. Interestingly enough, I used to use ctrl as shoot (IMO your reaction is slightly faster than clicking.) and then switched to standard WASD. Currently trying to transition back to holding my hand lower on the keyboard.

    space/alt:strafe
    mouse1: jump
    mouse3: forward
    mouse2:popup (bad idea actually)
    ctrl:attack

    asdzxc are all available. Don't feel like typing them out.

    I've found that this configuration kinda makes you want to move more. *shrug*

    I cant believe no one else uses my key mappings, I've been using them since Quake with small tweaks for each game and cant get used to anything else now.

    LeftMouse = Forward
    RightMouse = backward
    wheel = weapons
    Mouse3 = menu

    The left hand is placed on the keyboard with the pinky on z (Uk keyboard) the other four fingers cover x,c and v so
    z= use
    x= left strafe
    c= right strafe
    v= fire
    b= secondary fire (as there isn't secondary fire this is bound to a weapon toggle script to alternate pistol/rifle)

    then the fingers can move up the keyboard for
    f= flashlight
    r= reload
    g= speak

    LeftMouse = Fire
    RightMouse = Forward
    S = Backwards
    wheel = weapons

    The left hand is placed on the keyboard with the pinky on Ctrl the other four fingers cover a,d and Space and Shift so
    e= use
    a= left strafe
    d= right strafe
    w= menu
    f= flashlight
    r= reload
    Caps Lock= speak

    It might sound slightly clumsey but it works my left hand does most moving without moving with leaves my right for steady aiming.
    Everythings easy to reach.

    Man, those settings look retarded, do you suffer from 'spazz' fingers?

    I actually started this thread to see what I should bind to mouse 4, I thought just about everyone used wasd, or atleast used the keyboard for movement. Man was I wrong when I thought that the arrow keys were extinct.

    How do people start using mouse 1 and 2 for forward and back? And also the person who used s and x for strafing, that sounds so stupid to my ears, I like having my movement keys next to each other. And inverted mouse also sounds wierd, oh well. My first time I played hl I used the arrow keys, untill my brother showed my the wasd, at first it looked like the stupidest thing in the world, but I use it now...

    The good thing about ns is that wasd works, because thers are barly any buttons, like when compared to tribes 2.

    Keep posting, I really want to know if so many people are useing the arrow keys, or are just the people with "odd" configs posting...

    While we're at it, one thing I learned from TFC binding\scripting is that it's a really bad idea to put your melee weapon on an alias so that it attacks while you hold the button down, and stops and pulls out the last gun when you release. It's much better to move your melee weapon switch closer. This is because it takes less co-ordination than just one button attack, and because it's WAY more reliable. You don't want your knife to stuff up at a critical moment.

    Although, this is far more important for a TFC spy than a marine. Meh.
