dont order me around
Well, I went comm. on ns_hera in the Nano-Gridlock server. I when comm. because nobody else wanted to and me being a decent comm. took the chair. Then the trouble begain,
Every time I comm. I say something along the lines of “you Rambo, I give you nothing, no health, no ammo, no phase, no nothing” well I get things up and then the whole team on voice comm. all together say at once:
Comm. I Need a phase gate at vent
Comm. I need mines,
Comm. I need a welder,
Comm. get me a jetpack
Comm. advance the armory
Comm. get this node,
Comm. get that node,
Comm. lets take this
Comm. lets take that
COMM GIVE ME HEALTH NOW!!!!
COMM GIVE ME AMMO NOW!!!
Also various “HAHA” and “nice shot”
Comm. take processing
Comm. take holo
(once again, I could bearly make out what ANYONE was saying, nobody stops to think that maybe they should wait their turn to talk, at one point it got so loud that I had to take of the headphones because I thought my head was about to explode)
I don’t even have time to think, everyone wants me to be right were they are, I try doing the things I gathered and try to get everyone to stay together (as I did have a plan going)
They were good players, and they knew how to play, its just I could not help them at all, nor could I communicate back to them.
I felt really bad about letting them down, (I also got ridiculed in the ready room and people didn’t want me to go comm. ever again) but I came to the conclusion that I tried my best and that I am NOT god. It also occurred to me that although they knew where to go, they knew what to do , and they DEFENTALY knew what to ask for, none of them were even remotely near each other.
So please marines, your comm. is a person to, and they are called a commander for a reason, they give the commands, you follow them.

i was on nano gridlock today, it was... strange, see, someone on these forums had reccomended it as a better server, more skilled players. (where i play is clanners and newbies, no one in the middle.) but it was all newbies anyway!
three marines who were field commanding as you mentioned and two more who were jsut deaf, mute, blind and ... whatever makes you not feel....
For example, take a look a the best RTS players. They can build, micro, move troops, manage an economy, keep tabs on the enemy, and so forth and not even break a sweat.
I've learned to get over the "moaning" and wait for good orders. When I find a good field commander I listen to his every request, and try to help him out. Good field commanders get followed by nubbers, too, so it's win-win for a comm (b/c the nubbers will be outside of the base, not whining for eq).
As for when everyone whines, no one gives productive help, just quit comming. Lose the game for them, make them do something about it. *shrug* those who are easily aggravated should never comm.

how can u say this? U wasnt on that server, and how I read it those marines werent helping him or pointing out something, they were just plain ramboing and thinkin that they could win the game alone.
And at first I found being commander stressy too, but when I got the hang of it it wasnt stressy at all, (sometimes it still is on clanmatches) but If u find it stressy to be a comm then dont go comm or practice on a small server. ANd if noone goes comm then dont go comm either, just wait for the next round, becuz then they will understand how important a comm is... (and they cant blame anyone becuz no one went comm )
I have no voice comm so if I ever comm aside from laying out base I need to rely on field commanders so that my troops can self-organize.
I am good at RTSes tho
I like to watch the marines and see who is "good" and who isn't - who uses voice comm effectively, who knows the layout of the map and obviously has a hold on how the game is played. Those are the players I try to make my lieutenants in the field, and I listen to them for valuable suggestions.
There is no such thing as a "field commander." There are only loudmouth commander wanna-bees who don't have the balls to get in the chair. The most effective way to deal with them is to MUTE them. Even a good commander cannot manage 6 or 7 separate operations. Care and feed the guys who do what you tell them - ignore the rest. If they don't like it, they will quit or boot you - but then they have no commander at all, because most of these self appointed "field commanders" won't get in the chair.
well actually... i used to just maon and give every greif just to get them to move out of the spawn, it never failed! Now I just dont care and the stress is gone
But I for one will make an effort to go along with the comm and not be a backseat driver.
Sometimes no matter what you have selfish players that want all stuff for them, then go out and suck =)
