I was getting frustrated and went into paint shop pro 7. I copied the blue box (the background behind the text is a transparent blue color) and put it into a new picture, then I used a blind effect on a it and then I copied it back into photoshop and set transparency and an alpha mask to make it only go in certain areas. I suppose now in contrast looking back, It probably would have been easier to use the line tool. I'm just didn't think it would turn out the same way.
Edit: I also noticed in my signature that the lines are blue colors. In paintshop they were a combination of black, grey, and white. They alternated and when the transparency was set they turned blue-ish. Funny I didn't noticed that before.
Edit 2: I don't know which "lines" you meant exactly but I think you meant the ones inside the picture. If you meant the other outside black lines then... I used the polygonal lasso tool and went around randomly making a king of cool box. I filled it in with the color I wanted the lines to be, with the paint bucket. Then with that same selecion still selected I used the filter called "Stylize-->Find Edges" That turned the background white and the outside lines black. I took the magic wand and changed the white inside to a blue-ish color with 5% transparency and I just kept clicking until the transparency effect looked okay to me. I'm sure I could have done this an easier way, but why? It takes all the fun out of it.
Nah, I don't mind. I was trying to find something good to use for my text but I couldn't figure out how to add borders to text in photoshop. I kind of like the lighter look of my original one. I originally took a picture of a really light blue flower...yea a flower...and took part of the image and distorted it and gave it a water type look. I'll experiment with thicker borders and see if I can make it a little bit better. Any feedback would be helpful, especailly adding borders to text in photoshop (crazy stuff)
<img src='http://users.frailart.net/speedkilled/sig1.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image'> Does this look a little bit better as far as the borders go? I'm still confused on how to make the text have a border other then opening it in another art program. I tried using "find edges" on the text after it rasterized itself and it still didn't find anything. I could always go back and add a border by hand but I think with the darker border it's a little bit easier to see. What do you think?
Edit: Changed the picture to the signature I have now because I used the one from above. And to remove the annoying little red x.
for text, use the special fx f inside a circle, and select stroke. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Hmm, only problem is stoke is grayed out when I select the actualy text. And if I use a layer style it doesn't show up for some unknown reason. I'm probably just doing something wrong though.
Edit: I guess the only way it works for me, for some reason, is to rasterize everything and then apply the stroke. Oh well, at least I got it working.
Awesome work eplekongen look if u really not happy with it coz i reckon its pretty cool, a mate of mine suggested removing the pics (coz he reckoned it was cheap) and swapping it with having Roger Dodger somehow put in the trinary code but make the letters highlighted not too obvious tho as they fall down in a row, sounds good but is it too hard??
Now can anyone tell me why when i try to use the sig from hostmysig.com why it does not like the .php extension?? i have tried changing it to .jpg but it doesn't work, any help for a gimp??
Eplekongen if u have another spare 5 mins i wouldnt mind an avatar with just RD falling in the trinary but u alrdy gone up and beyond the call of duty.
what u think about my new siggy <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

No I know how to do scanlines, I'm talking about the actual border around the text, which you said you did with the polygon lasso. I'm trying to find a way to do it effectively in PSP7 and so far the draw tool set to point to point line is the only thing I've found to do it halfway decently, either that or by hand.
Otto, I did this for your sig, but I didn´t use it because the size is toooooooooooooo big <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Posted it back on page 17, but whatever.. I need to get home and redo the text... Thinking of either keeping the same text, but making it easier to see or doing something like what Eplekogen did for Roger Dodger's matrix sig with the white text.
*Edit*
Heres the remix of the above siggeh.. redid agent smith a bit and added a little somthin to the text.. nothin too spectacular but its an improvement I think.
