"When its done" is such a weak answer used by people such as Ion Storm and Wolfpack that only irritates people.
There is no harm in giving a date, just say a release that is 3 times longer than you think it will take you to complete the project, that way you will most likely never miss your deadline and all your fanbase has a release date so theyre happy.
I don't care when it comes out, I just hope it gets out before Uncle Sam calls me up to go spend a year vacationing in Iraq
BESIDES, I don't want them to make a thousand promises they can't deliver, AKA TF2, Duke Nukem III, etc.
I'm going to make a wild guess and say that it's going to be released before the end of this year.
[it sounded like more than a safe guess, but in hindsight... i hope i didn't jinx it ]
If you figure the worst likely case is that 1.1 = 2x as complex to fix up as 1.04, and 1.04 took around a month and a half to balance and add stuff, 1.1 would be released in May sometime (really bad case, and assumes that playtesting starts sometime shortly). However, I'm pretty sure Flayra learned how easy it is to get feature-happy with 1.04, and I don't think it will be nearly that bad. On the flip side, this is Flayra's baby and he's gonna be picky about it Don't expect it soon, but I seriosly doubt it'll become vaporware, so "when it's done" does mean that it will get done.
Still, being eager about it now is like making an x-mas wishlist in August.
Grampsmode? As in "No, Florence, it was in 1957, I distinctly remember because it was the year we had the Austin Partner. The green one. No the blue one was much later. And you got so ill you barfed out the window right down in the hotel dock pond. It wasn't 1958 because we went to your uncles funeral that summer"?

Take your time guys, the version I got right now is more than I deserve.

Back to the topic at hand, I believe more of an answer can be given than "when it's done" without betraying any sort of reluctance to give a release date. Do you guys have a plan? Meaning, do you know what you have left to do? Maybe you could tell us that and update us as things go along so we can kind of tell when it gets close.
Unless your plan is:
Code > Test > Release
Then we're just as well off with "when it's done".
this is a little Jedi Mind Trick i play on myself, cuz i don't wanna bug the NS team who have blessed us with such a super duper game. use either 1 or 2.
1) 1.0 is FINAL, there is no other versions coming out. it's cool! 2) 1.1 is going to be released January 4th 2009. hard date, for sure.
That way, 1, you'll be HELLA surprised when 1.1 comes out, or 2, you'll be gleefully overjoyed when NS 1.1 DOES come out, early.
