Huge Ping.

<div class="IPBDescription">wtf</div> Out of the blue I am suddenly getting huge pings, but seemingly enough, only in NS (CS appears to work fine). My stats for my computer are irrelevant as it WAS fine and then, as I said, out of the blue it started to lag with pings of up to 1000. I can assume it is my DSL but I download at normal speeds and CS works fine with around 60-90 ping average. Any ideas on why this might be happening? Oh yeah... I tried numerous servers, so that isn't the issue.

Something has changed to make your pc inadequate, details are as unimportant as your pc's stats.

If it's JUST you pinging that high on these numerous servers you mention, I'd consider three things.

Delete your config file (back it up first). Then run NS and let it create a new one.

If that doesn't work, reinstall NS.

If that doesn't work, reinstall HL.

There are other things you can do to try and solve the problem, but I've found that method to be the quickest.

If it still has problems, then you could try reinstalling your OS, although I'd obviously counsel more research first

Although there probably arn't any people that don't already know why this problem exists, I had better have it here anyway. This has absolutely nothing to do with the netcode. It is a server issue. It is because the current dedicated server code uses too much CPU power, this slowing down the server. A patch has been released to fix this issue, but many servers havent installed it yet

if you'#re in the UK try connecting to: 163.1.180.217:27016 and see if your pings are any better there. I generally find people have good connections to my server <img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'>

PM me if you are in the UK and you still get high pings on that server.
