Then (no matter what version it is) re-install the newest drivers (normally the detonatorXP from nVidia if you have a GeForce)
Once you install them DONT TRY TO PLAY BEFORE REBOOTING. That is the critical point. Don't try to play beefore rebooting. If all fails, reinstall HL <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
btw www.reactorcritical.com normally has newer drivers than the nvidia site <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Ok first, open up device manager, if you dont know how to get there, right click my computer, hit properties and goto the device manager tab, or goto hardware then device manager button.
Next up, make sure you have your drivers/cd handy, click the + next to the video card area, right click the video card name and click uninstall, reboot your computer.
Next you should see you only have 16 colors, so far so good, you better have that cd ready, or the driver install,
Install, then reboot your computer.
Try to play in opengl mode, if it doesnt work, reinstall half life, then it should work.
This happened to me on an ati card, this is what I did, and it fixed it, now on nvidia geforce 2 :-) lol
Anyway if that doesnt work, try updating your card, but doing this should give you a 100% chance of getting opengl to work again.
Enjoy,
