I say let them drop all the med packs they like, but LIMIT the number of medpacks each marine can use to 2. Once they have been healed to the extent of 100hp, then that is enough. Marines were never meant to be invincible. That's why they have spawn portals, they are SUPPOSED to die.

This isn't about cost. Frankly I could care less what the cost was. Simply because they can aford it does NOT mean that the aliens should suffer. All it takes is for marines to take Cargo on Nothing and they'll have more res then they know what to do with.

When people complained fades were too strong, did people say "well if you allow them to get enough resources to get fades then it's your fault - leave them as is"...? NO. The cost for fade was increased and the damage decreased.

If there is not a limit on the number of medpacks that can be dropped (say one per 2 seconds) then double the cost and cut in half the health given.

Personally, med pack spam is on my top 10 list of 'cheap tactics in NS' that I feel destroys gameplay. I'd love to see this problem addressed at a developer level.

    Regards,

    Savant

That's nonsense. An HA can get through his whole armour nearly 3 times before his health runs out. If he needs health urgently in a close combat situation, he's already effectively dead anyway cos his armour's run out. What HAs need is welding. Health spam just doesn't come into it. He needs less than 1 medpack per complete reweld (from 0 back to 250 odd armour).

Any HA being kept alive purely by health spam is no stronger than a light marine, and slower.

AFAIK, this cannot be done because selecting a medpack is a hotkey and thus cannot be aliased like that.

Well call me Bob, but healtpacks dropped from the sky with alarming rate down on the man. HE just sat there squatting. If a skulk came close, he knifed. If it tried to parasite him, he shot it. He got 10 kills before he finally got taken out. With Friendly Fire on it's quite difficult to gang up on a marine squatting on 48 health packs. Besides the many packs made it seem to be lagging up all of a sudden?

It's cheesy to use med pack spam. An alien that camps at Defense Chambers is NOT invincible, but a marine squatting on 30 med packs can endure at least 30 skulk bites before he dies.

Maybe about how his enemy upgrades himself (100 res) while fighting the enemy.

As a skulk, I've taken out a 100 res outpost and died only twice. A marine sitting on a mountain of health is nigh well invincible until either the marine team runs out of res, or the healthpacks run out.

DC's are not comparable to healthspam in any way, manner, nor form. They heal PER TICK, not instaneously. It might cost the marine team a bit of res, but hey, they held that position, they setup a PG, before you know it, they have an outpost there...

Healthspam is annoying and cheesey. I would agree with a 2 medpack limit, so long as the use time itself had a limit. So, for example, a marine uses up 2 medpacks, he has to wait 2 minutes to use medpacks once more.

On a side note, the 100 res outpost was 1 RT, 1 PG, 2 Turrets, And a TF, not to mention 2 or three marines. How/why did I manage to take down that outpost? Skill and luck, healthspam requires neither...

And what about if health pack heals progressively. I mean it spends 1 second to heal 50hp. You can drop as many as you wish but healing is progressive.

Make medpacks non-overlaping so a comm can't put more than 1 medpack on the same spot...
  • Ph0enixPh0enix Join Date: 2002-10-08 Member: 1462Members, Constellation
    I think its balanced.

On the one hand, the only time med spam becomes an issue for me is when a marine is building an important structure. A marine in the middle of nowhere or randomly protecting a site being med spammed isn't a big deal. If however he's building a PG in a hive it becomes imperative he dies. You go to chomp him and hes suddenly upto to his knees in medpacks. There is <b>no</b> way to stop that structure being built.

This happened to me once when we were chamber rushing a hive location and this one guy (crouching wouldn't you know <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> ) building a siege became invincible. Siege went up, attack defeated, gorge dead and all the res spent building chambers wasted.

On the other hand, later in that same game we managed to skulk rush that same hive and take the TF down and the rest of the buildings.

So not only did the marines lose a hive location and all the res spent on thsoe buildings, all the res (50+)spent on that siege building marine was for nothing.

Think of it this way. A skulk being permenently healsprayed by 2 gorges can walk through turrets for fun. This has cost 26 res for the 2 gorges. Additionally you have to divert 2 gorges to the sameplace.

With med spam it costs 20+ res and the commander's undiverted attention. Additionally where as obviously the 2 gorges remain to be useful, 10+ medpacks which disappear in 30 seconds aren't.

So I therefore call for the ban of healspray! Anyone with me ? <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

just a note: that medpack script does not work.

the hotkeys can't be scripted for some reason - i tried to make a spam script like that and when i tested it on a LAN it crashed my computer instantly. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

as has been said plenty times already, the medpack spammers are going key-click-key-click very fast.
  • Raw_EvilRaw_Evil Join Date: 2003-01-05 Member: 11903Members
Perhaps the medpacks could heal the marine up at a steady rate, rather than instantly? Then everyone can get their medpacks at whatever rate the commander can deliver them, as well as not being able to keep one single marine alive at any given point on the map. It would take a few marines to control a certain area, besides, the marines are supposed to use <i>teamwork</i>, perhaps this would encourage it.

For God's sake, make some sense you fool...

I'm just saying that my idea would make it virtually impossible for the commander to keep a single marine alive constantly, and you go on about medpack spamming being teamwork... it's not. When's the last time you played an RTS and kept a single pawn unit alive?

Get some sleep, get over whatever you're smoking/sniffing and come back.

    Kilmster, you're an idiot.

The issue here is that a single rine sitting on fifteen medpacks gets healed a microsecond after he gets bitten, for up to fifteen bites, with zero delay. During this time he is essentially invulnerable, barring an attack which will kill him in a single hit. During this time he can do anything he wishes.

During this time, the game is mildly retarded.

Take your micromanagement babbling and cram it up your ****. Nowhere in that entire offtopic post did you say anything to the effect of "I sit there with my one zealot and I drop these magic instahealpacks on him so that he can't be killed by anything as long as he holds position." This is about as close as you got:<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->As far as "solo" units are concerned, if you are clever you can bring a single dark templar to an unguarded enemy expansion and take out all of his peons before the opponent has time to react.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Right, and after the enemy reacts, do you drop your magic instahealpacks on his head, keeping him alive until you run out of resources? I doubt it very much...

Oh, and "closingly" is not a word.

I have personally killed 2 marines sitting in a muddle of medpacks. It wasn't easy, but neither was it impossible. Should you kill the marines, then the comm just wasted all that res. Leave it alone. Before anyone says anything, I usually play aliens.

Yes, I agree with your opinions about Kilmster also.

However, as long as the moderators, and admins allow him to post his normal trash; what to do?

It seems like they condone his statements, or he would have been banned from here already.
