Nothing wrong with Web. Directly webbing marines has no effect, except wasting energy. Besides, you should only need web to kill heavies. I love gorge. Quite a few of my clanmates have told me whne they see its me gorging their first reaction is to run the other way .
Anything is unbalanced in the hands of someone who knows how to use it vs. someone who doesn't. A good battle gorge can own, a good skulk can own, but a good LMG marine can own as well. Balance, for the most part, depends almost entirely on the player, except in those rare cases when something really is extremely overpowered. The bit about welding marines to free them is clever, though. Good idea.

This isn't possible. It isn't. It just ISN'T. Set up a server with some mates, or just one. Go gorge and try directly shooting him. Nothing happens. Zip. Nil. You can web a stationary target by placing a web "glob" on either side of the player, so that the web that is created is formed "on" the player, thus webbing him. But shooting web at a marine, even if you have earthed the other end, will do nothing.
[off-topic]Well i'm not sure what the defination of balance is but I can define un-balanced.
When something is so good you (as in the player) wouldn't not do it (or take it), its unbalanced.
So as an example, 2-hive lockdwon was unbalanced in 1.03. There was no point in doing anything else. It was fairly easy to do and pretty much guaranted the game.
Actually i'll have a stab at balance as well. That would be when each tactical and strategic option has advantages and disadvantages which balance i.e. big risk = big reward, small risk = small reward.
Again for example, 2-hive lockdown is a pretty big risk in 1.04. If it works, you've got a good chance of winning, but its not guaranted. If it fails you probably lose because a 2nd hive will come up and you'll be un-upgraded vs. fades, which is very bad
If you lock one hive and upgrade, it's the safe option. You'll probably be able to do it, and keeps you at least on even footing with the aliens, but isn't going to win you the game by itself [/off-topic]
I might post this as a balance thread actually

Ah.. you can web a marine with active welder, standing still. There is however a trick to it. Firing DIRECTLY at the marine does NOT work - in fact, it just wastes energy without creating any webstrand. You need to fire between two wall/floors/cealings to create the web. So you fire on two spots on the floor so the line goes across the marine - then it will trigger and remove his active welder before it has a chance to be welded away.
I noticed another fun thing. A marine will only trigger two webs initially (for a total of 12 seconds web time) - any further webs are then triggered every six seconds. So if that marine is standing still, you can put up multiple webs in the fashion above, and as soon as one webbing ends, the next strand will trigger.
Using a welder to free a marine is already in the game. A marine standing in a large web will trigger strand after strand until they are all gone, each taking six seconds. Another marine using a welder to clear the web strands will in effect free that marine from the web.
I would like all Kharaa ability discussion to this one thread. For ourselves and Devs(who might actually read these) sake.

webs should slowly die
or lose their stickyness after some timesa after 60 seconds they are 50% effective, then after say 3 minutes they disappear

How did i web them?
Aiming directly at them, clicking mouse button 1,whammo.
Argument : 0 res marines shouldnt be able to kill 54 res fades by themselves.
So why should 13 res gorgs + 54 res fade kill 120 res ha/hmg marines?
Eh?EH?
