I don't know what server you guys have been playing on, but I usually end up with a half-decent squad of marines that follow orders and don't ask for stuff we don't have. Anyway I can usually shoot down stupid or unreasonable requests by giving a quick explaination, like:
Health at base comm! Can't drop health; we only have one resource tower. Go out and get more.
commander make building x. We can't make that building, we're doing y build.
Commander JP please. We havn't gotten jetpacks yet, hold on.
Just about all the time they'll accept it and move on.
And I can't believe that in very early game Marines still demand GLs, welders and HA when that many res (33+10+25=68) can get the ENTIRE.... THE ENTIRE TEAM 2 upgrades in weapons and/or armor at the armslab.
I let people know that if they rambo, they won't get anything for the whole game, and if they annoy me doing so I will kick them too. Can't stand people not playing as a team!!!!
I have been comm many times, but most em them i loose simply bcuz the team DONT follow my orders they just go ramboing and BLAIM me after for not secureing hives with <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> 0 marines follow the order well it's quit posible <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
Going rambo, while usually a bad thing, can also help occasionally, especially if not too much of the map is webbed. Sometimes a commander even asks the marines to spread out and attack stuff while another team needs a distraction. For some reason, suddenly seeing resource chambers and even the occaional hive under attack in every corner of the map seems to confuse the aliens, and if the real assault team keeps a low profile they can get to the target easily. It's very effective when the aliens expand quickly without defending much, a marine that doesn't run into a skulk can often sneak through most of the map and into a hive. If they're getting a second hive, their first usually has a much weaker defense than the second. And if the whole alien team is attacking one point, it's safer too. And the feared jetpack/HMG rush is, of course, pure ramboing.
Obviously, this is very different from going rambo while your comm wants you to build stuff. If it is a good time to rambo, ask your comm, and also tell him of defended or completely undefended paths to hives, and anything else that he wants to know.

Does that seem odd to anyone else?
