    No it's not.

The first thing you have to do is to read the manual. If you don't you'll be VERY confused.

Ok, do you have a server for me that have people currently playing?

    its not.

no further than it is another half-life mod.

NS is primarily a Real Time Strategy game. It takes influences from games like warcraft and AvP and a host of other places. However, it isn't any of those games, its its own game, and is tres tres addictive.

follow orders, play in the team and read the forums/manual/FAQ and you'll get along fone.

here are my top 10 tips

1> You dont need 300 rounds of ammo ever
2> bite people, dont go gorge and shoot them
3> load up the game on a lan and learn the maps
    4> get voice comm
5> dont step into the chair
6> stay with your team mates, dont rambo off
7> You dont need 300 rounds of ammo
8> you wont get a better gun
9> you use your use key (u or space normally) to build stuff
10> the teams, although very different are for the most part balanced.

you'll have no problem finding a server for this mod, see if you can find a newbie friendly server.

11> Watch the slideshow after you install NS.
12> If the commander (com) say so then go thruw the phase gate ASAP after you <b>haven't</b> taken 300 rounds of extra ammo.
13> Don't go gorge untill you got a grip of the game.
14> Aliens might be harder in the begining but it wont get easier if you don't practise so don't be afraid to play alien.

Nice to see a newbie (as I still consider myself from time to time:)) who asks for tips before he plays <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Another info: Don't use the desktop icon to start the game. Use the icon in your start menu.

    Download <a href='http://www.udpsoft.com/eye' target='_blank'>All Seeing Eye</a>
That program is really easy to use and you will find lots of servers with it <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Here are a few tips:

1: This is not CS. Get used to it, make yourself at home <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
2: The commander is your God. When he says jump, you reply "how high, sir?". Seriously, listen to what he has to say. Even bad orders are better than no orders, and for a while you won't be able to tell the difference properly.
3: Don't go gorge. Trust me on this one.
4: <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=21&t=11247' target='_blank'>Learn how the Kharaa resource system works</a>. This is quite important, as well as explaining why you shouldn't go gorge.
5: <a href='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=17&t=23782' target='_blank'>Learn the terminology</a>, as there's quite a lot of it and you need to know what people are talking about.
6: Just to emphasize, if the commander says over teamchat "PHASE THROUGH NOW!", he really means it. It doesn't MATTER if you don't have full ammo yet, it doesn't matter if base is under attack. Believe me, your commander KNOWS that base is under attack and has a better use for you elsewhere. Learn to trust the commander's judgement.
7: Remember who your commander is; you have to be able to identify when he's giving orders.
8: Ok, just in case you really don't want to read the manual: the commander is the dude in the chair who gives you orders. Yes, he can be anyone. Yes, he can be kicked out. No, you don't need any special ranks or anything. No, you shouldn't go commander until you get a feel for the game first. No, the kharaa don't have a commander.
9: If you're going to go Kharaa, stay as a skulk until you learn the ropes.
10: No matter which side you are, don't worry if you can't kill anything and get killed repeatedly, Kharaa especially. Playing as alien has a very steep learning curve, playing against good aliens is very difficult.
11: NS is WAY more team oriented than CS. If you fail to do your bit for the team, EVERYONE loses. If your base is under attack, it aint just a silly mission objective like "bomb the target" - if that base falls you either lose control of a critical location (allowing the enemy to get more powerful), or you lose resource nodes (meaning you can't get more powerful abilities) or you lose your ability to respawn and ultimately the game. If you go off and do your own thing, you WILL get killed and you will accomplish very little even if you don't.
12: I really mean it about the teamwork thing. Stay in groups - when you spawn, wait for someone else and stick with them. It's not just a good idea to stick together in NS - it's the difference between killing the enemy and getting torn open by a skulk.

    Welcome to NS. Good luck! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
