would be nice to get a new engine for such a sweet game as NS. i think the atari 2600 engine for Dr. J vs. Larry Bird is better than the HL engine.

i'm sure they'll start working on hl2 right after they dinish tf2... in other words never. Although i would love to see ns on the ut2k3 engine, it's fine where it is now.

talesin i really doubt that machine could beat a top of the line alienware system... unless your boy spent $1900 of that $2900 getting it gold plated

for $2800 you'd be running a p4 3.06ghz, 1gb memory, 2 baracuda drives, sb 6.1, and a radeon 9700pro. But for the price you got your system is great.

Mongo, I didn't say it beat the top of the line. I said it beat the 'Hive-Mind' option. Though I STILL could put together a machine to stomp all over the top of the line Alienware for around (or under) half the price. $1400? WHOO! That's kid-in-a-candy-store time. I could end up tossing in striped RAID, a dedicated pagefile drive, full on 9700 Pro... or go into pennysave mode and go for a SMP setup to REALLY kick its PCBs. This particular one, the new owner had a set price-point. $600. So I fit it into that budget. I honestly didn't expect it to perform as well as it did, but I'm pleased that it has. Now to tweak everything for *absolute* best performance.

Trust me when I say that Alienware is FAR overpriced for the product they deliver. Then again, when I'm putting a machine together, all I usually get out of it is the old spare parts in payment. Which I proceed to tweak up and trick out for addition to my little renderfarm. If I insisted that they buy me a duplicate machine, I /might/ come up on the Alienware cost range. But I'd prolly still be around one or two hundred bucks cheaper. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
