Are the WON servers down? I can't run either my CS server or my NS server online. Anyone that tries to connect to the NS server cannot get WON authenticated, and the CS server won't even start up.

Yes, it's down. I've noticed this happening more and more frequently; I wonder if it's due to the up and coming CS patch? I've not been able to play for quite a while, and it's driving me MAD!

Someone pushed the shiny big red button agan Dont they get it yet? everyone will wanna push "THE SHINY BIG RED BUTTON" to find out what it does. They should just make it a small black button or whatever.

    lol...

They need to stop doing this crap with the won servers, and if they are moving them they should run backup servers until the new servers have been moved.

That way there is no downtime.

I always have no problems with IPs instead of hostnames, surely this means it's just the WON DNS which is flakey?

It appears to be back up now.

The problem with using IPs that people don't seem to get, is unless that IP is verified as originating from WON (just do a traceroute), it is possible that it's a hacked server and your wonid is then vulnerable.

Which makes the whole point of WON (anti-piracy) completely worthless.

WELL DONE WON YOU USELESS B*****DS

    Grrr

copyright infringement you mean? (piracy involved boats and violent crime last time I checked.. murder isn't really comparable to illegal copying.)

WON is mostly worthless, just like cd protection. It's only usefull when the server requires it, so if the server is cracked or thinks its on the same lan as you it isn't going to make a difference. Its main value to server admins is the unique identifier - for banning. That's probably the only significant reason that people accept it.

Personaly I'm really **** off that WON does not have a 99.99999% availability. Being locked out if my ip changes and I droped from a server also sucks. 99.99999% availability is perfectly obtainable if you have a decent system, and can manage it. (unavailability due to dns changes in unacceptable. Both sets of ip adresses should work untill the dns records have propagated the 'net. It's not rocket science..)

I think the banning use of wonid's is becoming significantly devalued by the large numbers of stolen cdkeys floating around the internet.

And before you ****, yes I have a better idea. (however it doesn't help with the copying aspect)

(how come the censoring filter replaces 5 and 6 letter words with ****?)

I do admit the WONID is a useful feature, though I'm sure simply having a backup DNS server would be a useful addition.
