Voice Comms

Lo all,

Can anyone suggest a fix how to improve my voice comms? Now apparently when ever I speak, it's coming out choppy which I'm guessing is down to the fact I have a crap connection... ISDN. (it's about 7k/s upload / download) Is there any commands in HL to perhaps tweak my netsettings or whatever which could help matters? Literally the only thing I have changed is my rate, which I've set to 7k.

Any advice would be welcome as playing NS without voice comms isn't much fun atall.

Get a new mic. I may think I'm joking but I was using a mic that came with my comp and it sucked. I assumed that I was choppy because I was running a 56k but when it stopped working period and I got a new one my voice started coming out loud and clear. If your using a fairly decent mic then I can't help you.

Yes... get a good mic. i also use 56k, and I get crystal clear reception and transmission off my Plantronics .audio 90 headset. It has tons of extras that place it a step ahead of the typical headsets.

    Check it out <a href='http://www.plantronics.com/north_america/en_US/catalog/display_product_detail.jhtml?rootId=cat640035&prodId=prod440020&productTypeId=cat1430032' target='_blank'>here</a>.
I got mine at Circuit City for 29.99, which is 5 bucks off the retail price.

I'd definitely use a good headset like the one I own; IMO tabletop gooseneck microphones are bad for playing games. The high quality mic that comes with mine is supersensitive if i want it to be, and has no static at all.

Oh yeah, don't speak diretly into your mic. Air passing in causes ALOT of distortion and noise. That's why I recommend the headset, cause then the mic is a constant distance from your mouth.

Oh yeah, good mics come with a "noise canceling" feature which greatly improves the quality of the sound over that lame mic that comes with most pc's.
