Fileplanet doesn't need this to be boicotted, it could be boicotted based only on it's use of queues and registrations. Gamespy has gone rotten.

I have no problems with fileplanet, rarely I had t owait for something that I wanted t odownload, and you have t oadmit they have an impressive amount of software on their servers, and I'm even thankfull for the ads when you wait, gives you something to read <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo--> And if I do have to wait (max was 55 minutes for CSF) I just play a game, or just browse these forums, kill time on IRC,etc.

Also, there are, unfortunately, some good mods currently being hosted by fileplanet.  I wouldn't want to do anything that might screw over Science and Industry or Destiny.  Fileplanet has hostages.

yea the www.planet's were nice but now its all commercial ########... all those ads and popups, not worth it now..

I've hardly visited any GameSpy site for well over a year. I remember being really disgusted by the shoddy quality of their 'journalism'; it seemed that every article had to in some way plug GameSpy Arcade, or whatever it's called. Whatever happened to editorial independence?

Maybe I'm being too hard on what is just a collection of gaming sites, but a lot of the smaller sites seem to be much better in that regard - they don't have some commercial agenda to push. It's done for fun, not money.

As a dialup user (no broadband where I live) I've found Fileplanet incredibly annoying to use. Being asked to wait over an hour for a 50kB file, complete with megabytes of adverts, got beyond a joke. If they claim it's bandwidth costs that are the problem, how come they can always get the popup ads to you?

Also, trying to download a large file over a non-resumable connection isn't my idea of fun. If I can't <b>wget -c</b> it, I'm not interested. Sorry.

And now what's happened to this Serious Sam site? If even half of that is true, GameSpy Inc have some very hard questions to ask themselves.

NS will be mirrored to plenty of different servers, so if you don't want to get from FP, you won't have to.
