While I completely support NS there are some things that people seem to be overlooking in regard to the DesertCombat mod.
First off, using File Planet to compare the number of downloads is pointless since BOTH mods have PILES of download mirrors. Just because NS was downloaded more from FilePlanet doesn't mean more people downloaded it overall.
Next, as for players, let's be honest here. If you compare stats you have DC with at least 4x the number of players and servers at any given time, usually more than that. I've seen DC with 10,000 people playing, and I can't think of a time when I saw more then 2000 people playing NS at a given time. DesertCombat is to BF1942 as CS is to Half-Life. The numbers support this. There's no shame in admitting that.
Third, let's be honest here. The vote is nothing more than a popularity contest. If they have a bigger fan base (which based on the number of people they have playing they do) then it stands to reason that they could likely have higher vote counts. So why draw up all the conspiracy therories?
In the end, does it really matter? Whether or not NS gets an award is not going dimish my opinion of it, and I doubt it will impact the developers at all. Sure NS is a great mod, but I play it because it is fun, not because it gets awards.

You forgot to mention how NS fanatics also multi-vote also.
DC has 10K people playing? I don't think so. All of BF1942 rarely gets 10K people playing at once. I just did a quick check thru ASE and under 500 people are playing DC while NS has over 1000. DC does not have a large player base. BF1942 does, and that is where most of the votes are coming from.

I think what he is Savant is saying is: Whether NS wins or not, WE WILL STILL PLAY IT!!! If it doesn't win (which it really deserves to) it won't make it any less fun that what it already is. I bet if we got some of those DC players to play NS, that might change their vote. It works vice-verca too.
this poll means nothing. people from these forums said it was possible to multivote, all it takes is one fan of either game to win this poll. no offense to DC fans, but it IS a less popular mod in terms of downloads and people playing at any time.
I'm sure FilePlanet's voting system is fine - one vote per person. Just because you voted 15 times over the span of an hour for one game doesn't mean all 15 of those votes will count once voting officially stops. Maybe it only records your first vote, and the rest just get piled into the 'public view' records.
Besides, would you really want NS to be known as the game that gets the award for most cheating repeat-voters?

Somehow DC gained about 1000 votes overnight. Yeah, im sure they didnt rig it though... /laugh I also find it funny that even at 2:34pm EST Half-Life has more then 100,000 people playing. BF1942 has 7,000. Maybe the BF1942 folk are night people? LoL
Remember this: DC dosent have to compete with CS, Natural Selection DOES.
If CS didn't exsist, DC would still be in the single digits as far as poll numbers, with about 89% of the gaming community voting for NS. Think about that.
I'm shocked this isn't locked yet, so I need to con-tib-oote some stuff before some guy from the DC forums comes over here and the thing ends up being locked:
1. Don't worry about it if NS doesn't win the Fileplanet poll. BFD. If the NS team isn't that concerned over it (and I'd venture a guess they are not), then none of you should be either. Cast your vote and see what happens. Hey, if you want to feel better, open your All Seeing Eye or (ugh) Gamespy and check out the number of servers running NS compared to the number of servers running Desert Combat. That's the only "victory" that should matter to us ("us" being the NS community).
2. My take on DC - Desert Combat is a fun game, arguably more fun than BF1942. But it's a freakin' alpha. Thus far, new weapons and vehicles over old maps. I'm sure it'll be swell when it gets to 1.0...but frankly, and this is just personal opinion, scream at me if you want....it shouldn't even be nominated in the same category as NS. DC is the best new alpha of the year, not the best mod.
3. It doesn't take a genius to realize that you have to kind of be on the ball when it comes to NS (moreso than you would be with DC, anyway). NS is the only mod I play that really DEMANDS a thought out gameplan if your team is going to be exceptional. As much as I LOVE Day of Defeat, there's just as good a shot for a team that goes in guns a-blazin' and gets lucky as there is a team that uses carefully plotted out strategy...and the same applies to BF1942/DC.
4. Communities? You can see by my post count I don't say much, but I've been around since NS first appeared, and I think this community is excellent right now. I'd take the NS community over the DC community ANY day.
So don't get up in arms about a Fileplanet poll. We, the NS community, know we have the superior game. Just rest easy knowing that you are more....enlightened than others.
Who cares if NS does not win this poll? All NS will get out of it is a bunch of "n00bs" and "llamas" and an "award" from fileplanet.
Think of it this way too, NS is getting a Onos pic on a soda bottle while DC is left in the dust.

Seriously, I think people are deliberately trying to keep me from knowing whatever happened with the Jones Soda label incident. I try and I try. What happened???

Also keep in mind that the ASE still does not always get a full list of BF1942 servers.
