Here's a slightly more elaborate wall texture.

    Here's a blank wall texture.

Those textures look really, really good.  I think that if you could work up a matching cieling texture, you'd have a great set.

Hey, that looks just awesome for "newbie textures"! Heck, I do web design, and I couldn't make those if my life depended on it. Now, like greedo said, a ceilign texture and you would have a set!

Well I havn't finished creating This set, but I think I will finish it after this positive response. <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

I was following a guide on how to create custom textures and it suggested having
    1. Two basic, simple wall types [two done]
    2. Two detailed variants of each of the simple walls
    3. Two different floors, slightly lighter or darker than the walls [one done]
    4. Two different ceilings, darker than the walls
    5. One or two light fixture textures
    6. One door texture with accompanying doorframe
    7. One stair top texture, and one stair riser texture
    8. One switch texture (well, at least two: on and off)
    9. One "glue" texture

    Following this guide I think I'll complete this texture set <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Those look really good, nice and realistically detailed.  You might want to make the top border of the pipes on the wall texture a little less dark, but it's not that big of a deal.  It's great to see something like this for your first attempt, great work.

Yeah, I really like your texturing, but what really strikes me as a fault is the fade to black seems much too strong. It may be that your gamma settings are much greater than mine.

Other than that, they look great! I can't wait to see more of the set!

Those are amazing! They should be VERY useful

Sorry Everybody, but I really messed up, it was my first time at using Photshop for textures, and I flattened the images as I went along, meaning that now I can't really do any more walls of that set. I suppose I will just have to start again  <!--emo&:(--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('><!--endemo-->

Here's what the new set will resemble, I hope you still like them <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo-->

Well, there seems to be a border around those pipes making them look somewhat unrealistic. Besides that, it looks great.

OMG Mecha, those textures are absolutly awesome!  Release that texture set as soon as possible! <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Well I hope that this texture set when I release it will be invaluable for anyone making water related maps. I started designing the set for my map which, as you probably guessed, is under water. Thats why the set is yellow <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Anyway I am sure to release it when it is finished <!--emo&:D--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'><!--endemo-->

By the way does anyone know a really cool font that I could use for the writing on the wall?

Very nice. I suggest the font 'Yahren' or 'Omega Sentry', although they are so futuristic they can hardly be read. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

I too have noticed a slight annoance with the textures.  The pipes seem to have something... wrong with them.  They look altogether unrealistic, althouh i'm sure this wouldn't be readily apparent from a distance, and maybe not in-game.  Other than that, fantastic work!  If everyone was a "newbie" like you, I'd hate to see a "master's" work!
  • SlycasterSlycaster Limited Edition Join Date: 2002-01-24 Member: 24Members, NS1 Playtester
Yeah, the pipes shadows seem to make it look a bit 2d, either way its incredibly good though!

If anyone knows how to make the pipes look a little less 2D I would be really greatfull <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

maybe try darkening the bottom a little more and making the pipes cast a shadow.
  • FamFam Diaper-Wearing Dog On A Ball Join Date: 2002-02-17 Member: 222Members, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
I was actually going to suggest the opposite. Using shadows in textures sometimes makes things look <b>more</b> flat. Try making the pipes fade to white then to black again, rather than just a simple fade. Its hard to explain it, which is why...

I have another question about texturing, and it is this:

When I Batch compile textures into Wally, they look really bright and overly ugly. I just wanted to know whether this was the correct representation, or if they actually look more like the originalswhen viewed in game?

By the way, thanks for the feedback, and I'll try to fix those pipes <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

mmmm, i think it might be wally doing that, it automatically makes them into a 256 colour pallete. Try saving your textures in a better program (like photoshop) in 256 colours 1st then importing them, not that i know if this will work or not =/

Wally shows textures a lot brighter then they look in-game. Probably because the alpha defaults to 1.5. You can change it in
    <i><u>V</u>iew</i> -> <i><u>O</u>ptions...</i> -> <i>Wally</i> -> <i><u>G</u>amma</i>
