Well.. My history is VERY LONG and problematic,, and more problems after that..

U see, I dont get labeled a geek, or a loser, or anything for that matter. I dont get picked on. Girls talked to me first day of school, I am not that polite, females are attracted to me most of the time, I get good first impressions, but becuz my said earlier many problems its kinda hard for me to open up..

I have pretty much no friends, I get okay with most ppl in sk00l, I dont get picked on, Im left alone. And lately friends of this really hot girl told me she thinks im hot, i said i think she is pretty, and um.. thinks look kinda boring now, but im gonna find a way to hook up with her <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Yes, the need to belong is one of the most basic of human needs.

Personally, I have a life in game and out of game, but I really don't care too much about the one out of game...

HA I say and HA says I. You think it blows? I live here. 24/7. I go home twice a year, Christmas and summer. Boarding school is insane. Right out of it. We have sports till 5:00 and then we got nothing to do till 10:30. So this is what i do. Most of the chuckleheads on my flat think NS is retarded but they play CS sooo...
Anyway think about me, cry, and feel better about your situation. Although it's not all bad, freinds you make here are rock solid cause if their not you'll evetually kill eachother.

You're going to be really disappointed when you actually grow up to know. Half of materialistic success is awarded to people who aren't bitter, vengeful, and condemning of others. The fact that you generalize people into categories like "jock" says something about you. Physical activity has nothing to do with what you'll do in the future.

On another note, people don't get alienated because they're "too polite." That's just a self justification to deny whatever's actually flawed about you. There's no way you can convince me that in a public school of roughly 1000, not one person welcomes you because you're "too polite." Go on, bust out that flamethrower.

I beg to disagree with Amavrin, who was probably a fairly popular guy (or still is) in school. If you are, even if you have a few good friends and no more, trust me, you have no room to talk. When you have people seeming to hate your very existence just because of something stupid, like you're overweight or wearing glasses, THEN you have some room to correct people. I went through elementary school with one best friend, which made it easier, but still had to endure 10 other people sneering at me or making jokes simply because I walked by and they didn't like the way I looked. Everyone else was indifferent, so no help there. It finally changed in high school, though I still had a bunch of idiots.. jocks, druggies, or ultra-popular types.. who didn't like me simply because of how I looked.

So can it, obviously you've never had this kind of experience. School is a harsh place, and the majority of 'jocks' think they're better than non-jocks simply because they have a six pack, a sports jersey, and a team of similar-minded jerks (who also don't like you) and the next guy (you) does not. Same goes for the other cliques.

It's hard to go through 10 or so years of being treated like crap to not be a little bitter later on.

I had a very mixed time in school, on one hand I was never without a handful of good friends, but on the other hand when I started school I was 4' nothing and weighed about 5 stone...try and not get picked on by people when your that size ^-^.

Never fear I did actually grow..a bit...later on in my school life, but on top of the tinyness factor I was always the complete nerd in school for the first three years (90% or higher in all tests, glowing reports, never got in trouble) but for various reasons which I won't go into now I went through a major, major change in attitude and lifestyle, and in my last 2 years of school and my 2 years of college I had a much better time, was generally well liked and respected by most of my peers and made some of the best friends a person could ever have. Now i'm not saying that being a nerd or a geek is a bad thing, look at me I still spend half my life sitting at this hunk of machinery communicating with your eejits, but it never hurts to actaully try and make the first steps into making friends.
(I'm also not saying "sell out and become another clone in the masses of the great unwashed" be yourself and find the people that respect you for that - those are the people that you want to be able to call friends)

Gaming communities have been a part of my life for..far too long now, and I can't imagine not being a part of one...in fact the thought brings me out in a cold sweat...

    I can sympathise norn...

I've been a social outcast since my first day of school, and I continue to be a social outcast to this day. I've been labelled an eccentric, a communist, a loser, a geek, a nerd, an {Insert Racist Slur Here}, ugly. I've been bashed in public, degraded demoralised and even depantsed. I work a **** job and despite doing well in school, writing what I've been told have been excellent stories and thinking about deeper issues (read the discussion "Human Evolution" in discussions) and despite all of this, I only feel at home in one place...

It isnt here I'm afraid, it's elsewhere, but in a style befitting of my outcast behaviour, I manage to survive with as few friends as possible.

I have to this day, only one true friend in this world, and to both our merits we have stuck with each other like an ionic compound through thick and thin, and I am superior to those that degrade me because I do no such thing to them, and nor do I have any wish to.

So far as I'm concerned, society can go off and die, I dont need it and it's never done me any favours...

On a completely unrelated note, I must really drop my hatred for all mankind...

I'm one of them people that, However hard they try to keep away from un-wanted luck, gets hit sqaure in the face with it...or from behind.
When walking home from school, i believe i have adapted to be able to hear running footsteps from a long distance...also have gained the ability to count down the exact moment when something bad is about to occur, and have lost faith in the evolution of Human Kind, bitter and angry at those better off than me. I know its bad, but its their fault i'm in this state...I also have a strange belief that the world is against me...I have also developed the reaction skills of Neo.. I can dodge just about anything thrown at me, experienced numerous "near misses" from overhead Sea-gulls...and become quite afraid when squirells throw nuts at me in the park.....Yes...and this is all true.....

    so so much to learn.

If you havent figured it out yet, school means absolutetly "."
    - Mark Twain said never let your schooling interfer with your education. School doesnt teach you anything useful about life. And it has limits when it comes to contiued study. The difference between school and university is huge, and i cant recall anything from school that helped that transition.
-And as far as being popular or accepted or not bullied. I have kept two friends from school since i left 2 and a bit years ago. And being popular is just a blanket for adolescent insecurity. I was popular, its not hard, you just bullsht. School is full of morons, you must remember that school is compulsory so you get to see the full cross-section of society in all its darkness.

I mean take the jocks (sporting types whatever your slang is), after they finish year 12 they have peaked. The moment of glory and 12minutes of fame was winning the cup as captain of the team. Thats the highh point of there life. They dont go any further. How can respect such losers? You arent obliged to.

    - Stick at school, learn as much as you can, and learn beyond school. And remember that most people beside you are not worth the oxygen they breath. And that beyond school they are meaningless.

Where ever your happy is ok.

But for christs sake its a big world, we can all do alittle better than the ns forums.

Unless your a dev, this shouldnt be your life.

    How true!

Has anyone seen the movie "Ghost World"? A really great one, one of the best in recent years! I think it shows very well that there are mainly 'jerks, retards and ****-ups' all over the place.

In Germany, you have to go to school for 13 (!!!!) years, so now I am 19 and I am still in the 13th grade with so many idiots and, what is even more frustrating, with so many debile teachers... ARGH I could freak out... but in 4 months I will be out of that loony-bin, FOREVER!

It's hardly fair to label me as "popular" because I cannot see how someone can justify associating physical activity to academic failure. And considering the people who do label others as "jocks" probably have never even tried talking to them, it's rather difficult to believe you guys have any expertise on knowing what happens to football players after high school. If anything, it's complete ignorance, something the "intellectuals" try to pride themselves in not committing. Maybe if the labellers actually were friends with the physical sports types, then they'd at least be able to make a valid judgement.

And then someone tries to justify their social problems by complementing themselves with "too polite." I'm sorry, I can't believe anyone, popular or not, would buy this odorous pile. For the record, my popularity only extends to being a photographer for the school newspaper and the president of the school's anime club; both are stereotyped as geeky positions. And the one thing I cannot stand in my club is the people who associate anime fans as mouth-foaming, unhygienec, nerds, for two reasons. One, because I too dislike people who are absentminded (read: obsessive) anime fanboy/girls, and two, because the people who associate anime with nerd are no better than people who associate sports with "jock" with academic failure. I'll be damned if I can't play football because of I've liked anime.

The whole point of Ghost World was that the girl who Thora Birch played was also a nutcase just like the rest of the world. She was able to manipulate the fact that all the world was eccentric and come to terms with everyone else. It wasn't that she was the outcast who was mistreated by society because of her appearance - that was the fundamental message of the entire movie. I remind you that she was far more judgemental about a person's dress than anyone else, and made snide remarks about their fashion. That was the whole reason why it was so amusing to see her go about her daily life. Hell, if I remember clearly, the original comic book started off with her making a big fuss of how her friend looked.

I figure I'll put my say in to it now.

Personally, I could probably go out, and have a "social life". I have some close friends, some good friends, and then a lot of "friends from school you don't talk to except there". Which is the whole purpose of why you have close friends, people to actually hang out with, that AREN'T going to judge you.

I guess you have to look at it in the manner of who actually is "popular". Who deemed them this? Was it a self proclomation? I myself have friends who would be considered "popular", and then I have friends who are really quite to everyone, and people don't even know their names. I guess it is my personality that draws people from both "classes", since I'm one of those loud, attention getting people, because i'm supposedly "fun and intresting to listen to, and are very deep and thoughtful, while still letting the small things slide off" (this quote was taken from a person I don't know very well, i'm sure the people who know me more would say otherwise <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo--> ).

Anyway, the fact of the matter, is that your going to become what you think you are, if you constantly tell yourself that. Some people at school call me a player, since rumors swing around that I cheat on my girlfriends, but, I can honestly say that I never have, and never will. It's things like that, the image that others give to you, that you have to ignor. People in general can be just plain ignorant (FACT: The common adjective give to an american from any other nation), so, you have to find people who won't judge you. For instance, I believe in abstinance until marriage. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I'm a law abiding citizen, and i'm WAY too old fashioned for my own good, BUT, I found people I can trust and care about who aren't judgmental, and respect my beliefs, and who I am in general.

What you have to look at even more, is not who you are, but who others are. People may say they go out and party, drink, and get laid, but in an ironic twist, I know many who go work at Burger King at 9 oclock at night on a Friday. They act "cool" at school, and people talk to them, but, no one wants to do with them outside of school. So, they find a target to take aggression out on, and so forth.

Now, I agree, the NS community is a wonderful thing. We all have many things in common. 1) we love the game. 2) We all generally hate CS, and that whereis anything related to CS. 3)We all generally agree the aliens series is wonderful. 4)We believe that people who say "1 R |-|/\Ve /\/\Ad Sk1lzz 1 PwN j00 Bizatcho" should be dragged out in the street, shot repedetly in the limbs, and then ran over by a mob of 3 year olds with tricycles. Still, there is the lose of physical interaction that is such a wonderful thing if you know people who you can actually have deep conversations with. Body language can say so much more that "lol". If you believe in evolution, then you'll note that was began to communicate with body language, so, it is an instinctual thing that we have, and use, subconsciously. With typed text, there is only so much you can draw from that, and so, it does somewhat deteriorate from the conversations you have.

BUT, there is also the satisfaction of having people out there that you can depend upon, and put your faith in to them. Sometimes, as was said, people never find a place like that, and end up lost their entire lives. You know who these people are? They are the High-School jock who never got a better accomplishment than winning state. They are the over-makeuped girl who always drank and had 3 kids by the time she COULD drink legally. Those are the people who are "popular", so here's my recommendation to you. DON'T be popular <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

<!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
That's exactly the point of Ghost World:
Enid is NOT like all the others in there, but she is different and doesn't get along with all of them. Her friend adapts to that world she lives in, but Enid cannot do so, that's why she leaves town and 'disappears forever'. It is a criticism of the world around Enid, not Enid herself!
