How Does The Skulk Bite Actually Work?

Multiple targets?
I've noticed that marines between buildings seem harder to hit. This may be subjective (it is harder to hunt them in a pack of buildings) but is there also a shielding effect? If a marine and a building are both in bite range, with the building being closer, will both take damage or will the building take it and shield the marine?
If so, perhaps intelligent target selection (bite the softest thing of those in range) would be useful. Sorry, I didn't do any serious testing on this, marines do not seem to want to calmly sit still while you're chomping their base.

i have been able to strafe around an armory to protect myself from an onos once. constant reload and blast with HMG took him out. but when he came back he just jumped over it.

oh yes one thing to say: elephants are among the only animals that don't know how to jump (it's a fact)

I know that for gameplay reasons onos-es can jump but it just looks incredibly weird
but dont remove the jumping, give it some climbing thing /stampede/crush/go on top of animation rather

i believe what you are referring to is a hitbox bug. Where the marine hides in the Buildings Hit-box, and therefore takes little or no damage when being attacked..very annoying.

EDIT: or not...you are asking if a marine is taking cover behind a building, he will not take damage? the answer is yes. Unless its an acid rocket.
Also, i have managed to kill an onos that leaped over an armoury and landed on me..i was stuck UNDER it, in its hitbox. It could not attack me, so i shot its belly full of lead. Blam 1 dead Onos.

yea, i've noticed that melee attacks always tend to hit what you're *not* trying to kill.... maybe a Murphy's Law of NS combat? heh

As far as I know, if you try to bite someone, it has a .00000000001% chance of hitting and it does 1/49000000 of a point of damage on a sucessfull hit. But if a skulk uses it on you he can score a hit from across the map and do at least 83000 damage a bite even if hees facing away from you.

Maybe this is just me.... and I should stay in my nice warm Comm Chair.

Dont try to think that a skulk bite is like a melee (club) attack.
Thry to shink its a shootgun with really low range.

no ankles means no crouch means no jump. they can kneel then lay down, but no springyness!

What he said. If the skulk bite works anything like the crowbar, that's exactly what it is.

And yes, you will hit the buildings instead of the marines. It happens quite often. It's not just you getting confused in the heat of battle

hmmm, seems like an onos could just eat away the armory rather than run around it... but um i know when i'm marine i stay low and inside buildings and i end up staying alive alot longer...

n00b onos tbh... I would have charged the armoury and taken it down in under 2 seconds flat then flattened you with my remaining adrenaline...
