Once doom3 comes you JUST HAVE TO PORT NS TO THAT ENGINE, i simply wont have it any other way

/me points out that NS would take another 2 years to develop on that engine.

While it would be great if that was done, it's kinda like wishing for Half-Life 2... You can dream, you can fantasize, you can drool, but in all liklihood it just won't happen.

NS would be so cool on Doom3, but lets have the NS team have a public version coming out first...

Though NS would look a lot cooler on DM3, but every game would

imho ns was made for the doom3 engine, and doom 3 engine was secretly made for ns

NS on the Doom3 engine. Now that would be nice...

Apparently the engine is being optomised for singleplayer though, with little regard to the multiplayer aspect of the game. In other words, it might not be so network-friendly, if you know what I mean.

But hey, there's always TF2!

Well, being on an older engine will open the game up to a lager community. To experience doom3 in the way they have shown in those movies and screenshots you need something in the range of a 1.2ghz processor, 256 megs of ram, and a geforce 3 or ATI Radeon 8500 video card. You don't get quality like that without the best hardware out there. So, in that sense it would close off the mod for those of us that have p3-600’s and TNT2 video cards and can’t afford otherwise, or at least you close off that level of quality.

To be quite honest, the maps, engine, and new effects created make NS look MUCH different then half-life or counter-strike. It’s almost like it’s totally new in some respects, just such high quality it’s almost unbelievable. I personally think that no one will be disappointed with the graphics end of this game at all and alternatively be quite impressed.

But...yeah, as someone with top notch hardware, I wouldn't mind seeing it as well, but then again doom is similar to NS in the aliens vs. human respect and who knows how they will impliment multiplayer.

Well, you guys also have to figure that if the original NS team doesnt port the mod over to the Doom 3 engine, some other group will make a similar mod for it, even if they MP is a little "unstable", I know from what I have read about the Doom3 engine, that mapping for it will be pretty slick and bring in a lot of new mapping talent. Doom3 sounds like it will be a very modder friendly game since they are including all of the tools they used to make the game. Documentation, however, may be a little skimpy

I know my machine is beefy enough to handle Doom3, and if yours isnt, upgrade! muwahahaha

But as many are probably thinking, lets see the HL ver first...

If a NS-like mod is made for Doom3, and it's done with the same level of quality as NS, CS, or DOD, it's no LESS than 2 years away, most likely much longer.
• LazysamLazysam Join Date: 2002-01-26 Member: 101Members
but in all honesty i think it would be well worth the wait, there is always the problem with the multtplayer component of the doom3 engine being none existent as of right now, but hey that’s just a minor obstacle right?

ah, yes - it would look very nice, but do you know what the minimum specs are going to be?

your going to need a HORSE of a pc to run it.
• BioHazBioHaz Join Date: 2002-02-18 Member: 226Members
I think Doom3 needs at least a 700Mhz sys with 256 megs of RAM and a 2nd or better gen GPU card to run halfway decent... Thats steeper than a lot of the sys my friends use... But for optimal performance, you cant go wrong with a 2Ghz or better with 512+ megs DDR-333, and a 8mb buffered HD, or Raid 0, and a mandatory Geforce 4 Ti4600

I've read other places too were modders were talking about what made HL better, but I can't remember where. PHL mailbag?

Anyway, I'm curious if the dev team has anything to add.

I find it somewhat funny that we talk about a port before the mod has even gone public, much less done.
• VangorVangor Join Date: 2002-05-22 Member: 655Members
Well, I bet once this goes public without the support of Valve (that is, Valve isn't directly making any portion of it like it now does with CS), and grows to the expected size, then a company with some neat ### engine will go "Hey! We would like to make our engine fit your mod and sell it as a game with profits to us and you, then, we will allow modifications for it and beat out any chance half-life had at surviving that last year!" . Trust me, there is alot of crazy stuff that goes on, people steal ideas all the time. Hopefully, NS gets picked up onto a new engine like this, rather than someone making a game directly sold called Naturally Selected with the same #### lol.

There are a few things about Half-Life that make it better to mod for than any other game out there.

First is the sheer volume of players who own HL.

Secondly is the support that Valve provides. A modder can literally call up Valve and ask "What's [x] mean?" in reference to their SDK and such, and get a response, even 3+ years after HL has been released.

Third, it's continually being patched, improved, and fixed. The support is still there.

I don't think we have to worry to much about people stealing ideas...Charlie has copyrighted it so we won't see anything exactly alike it in another mod unless Flayra wants to.

If they dare try, they will get 'Foxed' by a mod team.
