<div class="IPBDescription">Saw it</div> People have talked about the different waypoints and that the commander can request you pick up item. I know many people haven't seen it before, and it just happened to me in a game tonite, so I took a screenshot for all those who haven't seen it before. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

I tried to get it to work for 10 minutes in a lan game with no success. I wonder what the trick is cause I made the gun spawn as high as possible and clicked like mad within it without ever getting a different wp.

ive given it once. i tried a few more times but i have only done it once. there is a weld at wp... there should be a Attack At Waypoint.
  • BlackoutBlackout Join Date: 2002-11-17 Member: 9004Members
There is. I can't get it to work consistently, but I've given the "Attack at waypoint" order to soldiers as comm, and had it given to me while in the field. The waypoint actually moves around with the enemy, which opens up some shady possibilities for free motion tracking -- which might be why it doesn't always work.

Attack at waypoint is easy, you just right click on the actual alien. So if you ping the hive...and see the gorge, and have a party selected...tada, you get an icon that allows everyone to see the gorge running around until he dies. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Actually, what happens is as soon as the Gorge leaves a marine's line of sight, it stops tracking him.

It's only really usefull if a skulk is right above a group of marines and you want to alert them to the presence of it. If you can spot out a skulk quickly enough, you can save your marine's a whole lotta pain.

The best order will always be "build hive at waypoint".
    Things will change in 1.1

you can give the "weld target at waypoint" order by clicking the yellow "weld-icon" ... but doesnt seem to work on some weldables

anyone found out about how to do this yet?
also, note that no official posts regarding this so...the sound file exists, any a couple of alien ones.
THere would be a possiblity that something triggers this so what exactly?

I brought this up but I'll bring it up again: we need more mouse cursors. I suggest a few more:

    <b>When you have selected a marine:</b>
    <ul>
<li>"attack" cursor, mouse over an alien/alien structure.
<li>"pick up" cursor (not the WP symbol, but a cursor in the comm chair)
<li>"weld" cursor, for both HA, buildings, and map objects.
<li>use the default cursor for anything else on the map. (move command)
    </ul>

Also the build cursor (the 2 wrenches) should NOT appear over a building that is already completed.
I also think the comm should be able to tell a marine to "gaurd" *something*. This *something* could be a marine, an area, or a building. I think there should be some way to select this cursor on the interface (like war3 has icons for patrol, attack, move, etc.)

It tracks him as long as anyone sees him, doesn't have to be yourself. It is just the commander that has to see him, meaning any marine.
And it doesn't stop tracking when the poor sod dies. If you don't give the marine another order the tracker will still be there. But you have to spot the alien for it to appear.

Ok, this might not be accurate. Assumptions based on my experience.

Whenever I am commander and I give an attack command on a gorge, it seems like it follows him around till he dies, but maybe its just a tripped out nightmare or something...

yes, the comm interface is sorta bugged

    as an FYI:

Comms can also activate any switch that uses the use command (so doors that you have to touch don't work). So yes, the com can open and close things like the rotating doors in bast

the way you do this is get DIRECTLY OVER IT and click, it should owrk

try this with the equip and It might work

this can already be done... select marines and right click on another player or building.... and it has the a guard waypoint over it until the building or player dies or another command is given, also attack aliens seems to work as long as the alien is alive... But doing everything i haven't been able to get this pick up weapon command, i really wish i could figure it out...

I too found this sound file while looking through the sound folder I thought it was a file that was gonna be used in later versions of NS.

There are also some funny alien sounds that hardly get used "this is my hive there are many like it but this one is mine" ans "we need better players"

In all my months of commanding, I've only got "Pick up equipment at waypoint" once. I accidentally dropped an hmg when I was attempting to select my proto lab. So I selected a soldier and waypointed the protolab to show him where it was, but it gave him that waypoint. It is probably the hardest thing to reproduce.
Just try dropped eq on buildings and right-clicking the buildings.

Yes this works for players or buildings, but if it's an UNBUILT building then you give them the build order. If it's just an area u want gaurded, they will isntead MOVE there, and upon completing their order go and do something else.

*Orders marines to weld gorge at waypoint*

I once saw a marine right klicking an alien to order "attack targed".
    Nothing special.
The alien died, the alien respawned , but the blue "attack target"-sign was still on it. Was funny seeing the sign moving around the map.
He died about 10 times with the "attack target" sign on it.
I Sayd to that player "<b>you are cursed by our commander, I can always see were you are, you are marked as attack target</b>"

Well, i cannot say that i have seen any of these very useful waypoint commands before. The only one i would consider getting rid of would be the attack enemy waypoint. It would work very well if it dissapeared if the enemy was killed, but it is just far to un-fair for it to stay on the enemy for the whole round. Maybe that is the reason it is quite hard to pull off.

However, the Pick-item up waypoint is very handy i must say. I should expect these waypoints to be easier to use in 1.1 with the new commander interface. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
