Posing Models

Milkshape? 3DSMax?
Hi, I am contemplating entering that readyroom sig contest. What I want to do, though, is have a marine in a pose that I make up myself. (Normal game animations don't include this pose and the preexisting renders in the media pack aren't what I'm looking for.)

How do I take the .mdl and make him pose? Do I load it in Milkshape (god help me with how to do that) or something in 3D Studio Max (which I don't have) ... ?

If this requires mucho skillage, is there anyone I can send a concept pic to and he/she'll do it for me?
Thx.

decompile the model with milkshape, import the reference.smd into milkshape (this is the mesh (model)) and select the joints (there called bones btw , dont ask) and either move or rotate them to the desired pose you need (this has to be in animation mode btw if you want the mesh to move with the bones) and then simply export the mesh (while still in animation mode) as a .obj or a .3ds (.3ds suck arse though itll ruin your texture in max) in 3dsmax you could simply use the .smd decompiler and import and pose the model there.
