<div class="IPBDescription">"the bridge"</div>It's been a long time, with not much to show for it. However, I stuck to my budget and it looks pretty good. Here it is...

The room is round, so I had a hard time finding a corner to shoot these from...  <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

I'll come back in later and touch up the computers and such. This will do until playtesting stage.

my only constructive crit right now is that the ceiling is, well... flat. perhaps if you had some recesses around the things that touch the ceiling, that would help break things up. that is, if r_speeds allow for them

I've looked at it for a while, and I think the thing that strikes me the most is that this room just doesn't feel techy enough to be a bridge.  One thing that definitely detracts from the good parts of the room is the ceiling.  It's very plain, and that texture doesn't really fit with the rest of the room.  Also, the met strip texture on the beam supports doesn't really fit here, in my mind.  The monitor is dark, and it looks wierd.  The lighting here is good, and the architechture is too, just that the cieling needs to get fixed more than anything.

    Ooh, very nice! Especially that last shot. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

I too was going to mention the ceiling. Icka. And while I think the lighting in general is very good... I'm in agreement with greedo that the whole thing needs to feel more "alive" with techy junk. It needs more lights in other words. Or not even. Just "overlays" would be awesome. You know, like in ns_bast.

It would look soo good here. Dark consoles or panels with a million glowy little lights... If you do something else with the ceiling, and add some techy overlays, this will be totally kickin.

But yes, don't spend too much time on this one area right now... move on and do other stuff. Once you've got all the basics down for the entire level, go back and make areas perfect. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

Well, lets me just start by saying this is my 4th attempt at getting this room to satisfy me. If parts of it look rushed it is because they were. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo--> Once I saw the room was going to work, I kinda got into "pack up and go" mode.

    <b>Re: overlays</b>
Yes, I can do those. I even thought about it. I can't seem to think of one reason why I didn't do them either. (Other than the above.)

    <b>Re: icky beam supports</b>
Yes, I don't like them mutch either. Not here anyway. I'll be thiking of a replacement, and I'm willing to hear what any of you might have in mind.

    <b>Re: ceiling</b>
Yes... It isn't quite what I wanted, but far better than anything else I could find. Not too many good ceiling textures in the NS.wad... Still, I may see if I can't use something else.

    <b>Re: tekkie bits</b>
I'm sure I can add cool stuff down the road. This is just the "rough draft" and r_speeds from here all the way to the hive never really exceed 300, so I still have plenty of room to expand.

Additional detail will have to wait. r_speeds are not the only factor I'm keeping tabs on, and I've used all the planes that I have budgeted for this area. While I'm planning on having planes to spare when I'm all done with the rough draft, the idea is to have them to use when everything else is done.

    Thanks for your comments!

Update: I went ahead and made up textures for the additive overlays. It seemed silly for me to know it really needed them and not to create them. So that detail is off the "to-do" list.

If I happen to compile later, I'll give you some shots of the console.

Yeah, I think it looks great except for that ceiling.  A bit of bumps and curves in it, along with some new texturing, and it would look much better.

I see what you guys mean. I may do something about that in the future. The shape of that room means anything like that will take 2x as many brushes.

In other news, expect to see a playtest version of Elysium released in 2 weeks. No, I'm not joking.

I decided to follow Flayra's guidelines and put the map into hyperdrive. I already have 80% of the map in rough build. Look for some overheads of the complete layout early next week.

    Go KT!

On a completely pointless note, I think this topic would be much cooler if the sub-topic, rather than "the bridge," was "t3h |3R1Dg3!!!"

It is very much on the alien side.

Way to go, KT. That is awesome news. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->
