Multiple Teams

<div class="IPBDescription">co-operation between 2 teams</div> just a wild idea that came up by reading the marine vs marine and alien vs alien posts.

instead of 2 teams you could make 4, like marine team 1 and 2 vs alien team 1 and 2. Each team should start with a own base and totally independant of each other, but they do work together (double skulk rushes, double marine rushes, and many other tactics). Only thing that links them is the ability to build each other a command console and a infantry portal, and for the aliens to build eachother main hive. This is just implemented to grant a team that is killed to start playing again, otherwise they would get bored (you could skip this, but the team that is destroyed is likely to leave the server). So making this game a bit more rts influences. You could even add a diplomacy system, but I think this would be too confusing. Probably this is to complicated for the hl engine... I'm sure some of the ideas must be changed or tweaked to make it a bit more playable. You would need special maps etc... Anyway maybe an idea for the ns standalone version <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->.

    - It's hard enough to find one com. Getting two will be nightmarish.

    - It would be imperative for Kharaa to kill Kharaa. After all, they both desperately need hives to survive. Marines could co-exist with other marines fairly easily.

    - How would you distinguish kharaa teams?

    - The maps would have to be re-done.

    I do think alien vs alien wont work well with the current state of lifeforms and abilities.
    "Bout the difference of alien teams: you could give team 1 a bit yellow skinny and team 2 a green skin, or just dont. While for the alien hud you could use the normal white bulbs for own team players and say green bulbs for co-team players.
    ffcourse this would be only able for big servers , the minimum should be 16 players up to 32+

    He didn't say alien vs alien, he said there would be 2 aliens teams vs 2 marines teams. However, your statements are still true in the fact that there would only be 1 hive for evolving and only one of the teams (if any) would be able to evolve to fade and get a 2nd chamber. Also, the only way to distinguish the teams would be changing the color of one of their skins... which seems kind of stupid to me.

    It's already been said that more than two teams will not happen. For one, because we're already running up *at* the mapping limits on a good chunk of the maps (at least one of which had to be 'nudged' literally a unit at a time until it compiled). For two, because the team balance is ALREADY delicate. Three-team, you'll end up with two teams on one, wipe 'em out, and it's back to a two-team match. Four-team would just get silly... and cramped. 32-player servers would be the only ones with a CHANCE of handling those with a decent number of players per team.

    For additional reasoning, check one of the previous 'three team match!' or 'add a team' threads.

    When i have 300 res I divide my marines in 2 teams. One with jetpacks and one with heavy armor, its impossible to keep them together.
    When aliens have 2 Hives they tend to divide themself into 2 heaps, one doing suicide missions and one doing team-based rushes.
