Lerking In Hera

well it's when you're lerk in hera
I don't know my map location names, but the tunnel between marine start and Hera entr/recept, there's this long tunnel. The roof has some sort of glass panels between sorts of pillars.

now here's my story:

I was lerking , umbraing and stuff, when suddenly I heard the pop-pops of a GL. While I didn't want to venture into their base (quite well defended) and couldn't pass through maint access (door closed) I decided to fly back. And, as many of you have possibly noticed, there is some sort of error in which when you fly into those glasses it seems you're going to fall/go on top of the map or something. So I was blocked on one of those pillar ring things. You know, my carcass busted to shreds by 4 grenades while I was helpless in a clipping (?) bug of glass and couldn't fly back to safety.

Anyone else have this problem? It seems only I have it, as I see noone going halfway out of a map.
I have seen this problem on tanith as well, near the radar dish to satcom shortcut. (those red forcefield things I think they are)

It's just annoying to think you can fly away to safety when actually all you're doing is being blocked because the glass doesn't stop you correctly as a wall/ceiling should.

If anyone knows what I'm talking about, just post about it I suppose, and I hope it's getting fixed because it's frustrating. Or is it caused by lag or something?

I'll post a screenshot maybe if you don't see what I mean

I get this all the time in both of those spots. I've never seen anyone else do it either. wonder what it looks like from outside.

Usually I just don't flap so high. It's a bit slower but, Jump, wait till you start moving down and flap forward. That way you don't rub against the ceiling. *shrug*

I have also noticed this, could it be related to lag? My ping is usually ~200

imo I'd say it could be caused by lag and the client(you) doesn't know there is a glass. However, the server DOES know, and when you go up, you're saying 'hey I'm going through the glass" but by the time the message goes to the server and back, it's saying "no you're not the glass blocked you" but you're actually up there...

    I suppose

As to tom.. yea I do that too when I think of it (kinda hard when you're at 19 of life as a lerk and hearing 4 grens coming at you) but the problem is I'm not used to it I always flap like mad whenever I'm running away (well apart if there are known normal obstacles ie some weird ceiling) I figured that part myself but Im just used to backing fast...

And panzer, try going kharaa (seems to work mostly with them) go on ns_tanith and go to the sat dish place. And try to run into the outside of the map (in the red forcefields) you'll notice you're falling only to be on firm ground a second later.

Cereal got it right. The client thinks you can fly up there (for some odd reason) but the server knows, man...

It's all to do with prediction.

the problem is that for a lot of glass things the collision detection is working server side when it is supposed to be client side coz obviously that glass doesn't go away or break and is there all the time so it should be client side.
