What Makes A Funny Funny?

<div class="IPBDescription">Laughther?</div> It seems like a strange question but it isnt really. What makes things funny?

For example, in the telling of a joke, part of what makes it funny is the way it is told and how it was told, the punch line, and generally if it was a good joke. But the problem with analysing humour in jokes is that jokes intetionally set out to make you laugh.

What about other types of humour? Accidental humour? For example, someone trips over in such a way as to provoke laughter from others, even in the person that tripped over. Why is that funny? Also, theres the matter of defective logic (A dog walking his owner), comics, a boat load of things that are funny.

In all essentiality, what is humour? What makes things funny? Why are these things considered funny? And why are certain things only funny at certain times? Also, why do things that we previously died laughing at initially get old fast?

It hast to be unexpected like when your hearing a joke for the first time and you can figure out the punchline the joke is refered to as "lame." When you see a friend bust his **** thats unexpected.

It also can't be something serious like when the hindenburg blew up not alot of people cracked up about that and it was tottaly unexspected.

Also if its kinda taboo i guess it helps like black humor. But not to much theres a fine line and it depends on your audience.

i cant help you there, but im just wondering

is there such a thing as a funny joke without somebody being discriminated against?

not just the 'yo momma so fat' or your typical racist jokes, but just laughing at somebody stumbling, or making a lame joke etc

    im intrigued !

What I think is funny is intellectual humor, jokes that make you think are the funniest.

For a fairly interesting discussion in this, read "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein

    misdirection misdirection misdirection...
    its all about the misdirection!
well thats my observation. it works for verbal humour as well as physical. there needs to be some surreal unforseen event to generate the comedy most times i think.
