Gaming cutscene/cinematic?
A simple "favourites" poll.

I guess I'm overly biased to this game, as I'm still playing it, but I can't get enough of the cinematics used in Thief: The Dark Project. Despite the greatness of technical merit in all cinematics Blizzard related, (favourite for Starcraft would probably be the Amerigo, and for Warcraft III, the Orc ending), I simply can not get enough of the cinematics used in Thief; I absolutely adore the style and ambience associated with it; it's just brilliant. God, I wished there was a Thief cartoon...

Hmm... better note this down:

MAKE SURE THAT IF YOU POST A SCENE, YOU INDICATE BEFOREHAND WHETHER OR NOT IT IS A SPOILER!

In my opinion, the best game cutscene I have ever seen was in Metal Gear Solid 2, when Raiden is about to be shot to peices by about 8 Russians with AK74's, and a Ninja jumps down from the ceiling, deflecting bullets with her sword.

My all-time favorite cutscene is from Metal Gear Solid 2, when Snake is about to go into the Cargo Holds of the tanker. Right before you fight the guys guarding the door, it plays a cutscene. The thing I love about that cutscene is the sounds, simply beautiful. Its an audio feast for your ears.

The Doom III Alpha (I have it and you don't!)

You're walking forward slowly on the second level when the pipes to your forward left begin to hiss. Suddenly they burst apart and a Pinky Demon (Robotic Demon dog thing) shoves its head through the broken pipes and then scrambles out to attack. Fear and paranoia pays off. Classic.

    - I liked very much he music used in the cinematics from both Fallout 1 and 2.
    - Fallout2: the huge nuclear explosion of the Eclave naval oil platform and the departure of the tanker from SanFran. this game had such an atmosphere...

    - the Amerigo cinematic from Startcraft. it was damn good.

I love the ending cinematics of Planescape: Torment.

But my favorite has to be the one in the original Starcraft where the marines are aboard a science vessel and all the zerg start to swarm in on them.

I liked the Battlefield 1942 intro.
Although Metal Gear Solid + MGS:Sons Of Liberty
do have some classics. BTW Doomeh, the music is by
Harry Gregson-Williams (i think thats right) He did the
music for Enemy Of The State and a few others.

I have ALL the tracks on CD, including the bonus tracks
    from "The Other Side" CD

Just about any cutscene by Blizzard or Square. These two know how to cram every bit of detail into even the most inconsequential scene.

The funniest in recent memorable history for me was from No One Lives Forever 2, the cutscene leading up to the level titled "The Getaway"

Imagine this: you're playing as Cate Archer, a good-looking female British super secret agent, who for some reason has been partnered up with a stereotypical, kilt-wearing, bushy-red-bearded Scottish agent by the name of Magnus Armstrong. Big strong guy with just as strong a Scottish accent. (Picture of both you and him available at http://www.nolfgirl.com/gameinfo/nolf2/scr...creens/bg62.jpg

You're searching in India for a heavy-built assasin who's been contracted to kill you. (In the previous mission, you escaped from a trap he planted for the both of you.) In every cutscene and mission you've seen him appear in, he wears a large black coat, a scarf around his neck and lower face, and white makeup all over his face. He also has a French accent, is about 8 feet tall, and seems to glide across the floor instead of taking steps.

So here's where the cutscene starts: Spoiler warning!
Having just escaped, you and Armstrong hide in an alleyway for this assassin to pass by. At Cate's signal, Armstrong leaps out to grab this baddie by his American-football-player-wide shoulders...only to find the black coat in his hands, for the assassin glides on!

Yes...for the first time ever, you see it is actually...a midget mime on a unicycle!!! Soon realizing what has happened to his disguise, he wheels around to see who did this to him. With a scowl, he turns again and speeds down the dirt streets.

The camera angle shifts back to Cate and Armstrong. It pans downward to street level, as Armstrong says "You shoot, I'll drive!" You think it'll be an annoying rail-based shooter mission...

...and then the camera finishes panning down to street level, and you see your vehicle.

    A tricycle.

So there you are, the mission begins. You've got 1940's Tommy-gun in hand, you're on the shoulders of a buff Scottish guy pedaling a squeaky child's toy through the dirt streets of India, you're chasing and shooting at a mime midget on a unicycle, and you're simultaneously fending off similarly armed mime henchmen.

When I saw all of this cutscene and the mission after, I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. That mission was the most fun I can ever remember having playing a rail-based shooter mission or game.

    SPOILER: The Thing

When you are making your way up to the controll tower, and one of you team members thinks he got infected, his morale drops, and he sits on the floor with his back against the wall, the camera zooms in on his upper body, he looks up at you with fear in his eyes and says "I.... I... I just cant go on like this.... you know what you have to do....." he then waits a minute and says " I should have figured... mother always said if you want something done right...." he lifts his sidearm to his temple and blows his head all over the room

The cutscenes in the BG games were few but terriffic. Dialogue, scripting and cutscenes in Deus Ex were amazing. And, of course, Blizzard owns you. Hardcore.

Still, I have to mention the C&C games for all those horrible yet hilarious mission briefings. RA2 actually gave them style and humour outside their poor quality as well.

Easily Thief and Thief 2's cutscenes. Those things just give me tingles of fear and profound artisticness... I believe that this is mostly to do with the sound in the cutscenes. Sound plays a huge part in determining atmosphere (more so than visuals, in my opinion), and the guy Looking Glass got to do the sound in Thief did an outstanding job.

The intro to Quake2 is an old favourite, too. Once the pod enters the planet's orbit, and Rob Zombie's music kicks in, I'm tingling all over...

No, it wasn't, becuase you had to fight the giant muntat thing in between (I forget what its name was)

THe firing of the Junon cannon was excellent, both against Weapon and the supercharged Mako shot.
