Background Music!

I've been playing NS for months, and like many beginners, took the safe side of marines!!! (I know how to shot! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> )
For the last month or 2 I've been playing mostly aliens (gorge) and the background music is driving me crazy!
My sight stays centered on the screen and I miss most the text that is typed, so using voice is highly important to me. Background music can get extremly loud and drown out others calling for help and it covers up the sound of enemies closing in on you!

A lot have told me to go in config and disable music.. I assume *Play CD music* <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
There's only 4 options.. Play CD music, High Quality Sound, Enable A3D, Enable EAX.
The background music still randomly plays!!!!
When I told others that I have disabled this and still get music, others told me same thing happens to them. others have not problem and never get background music.. Are we disabling wrong thing? Glitch?

If you don't have the background music and wonder what I'm talking about.. it's the same music that plays on NS website.

There is a volume control in the config menu as far as I know. Just set the volume to zero. Or another thing you can do is find the NS music folder and delete its contents. (I don't know if this will work though, since I've never tried it.)

cl_musicenabled is right command.. and it successfully changed to 0.. maybe NS needed to restart for it to take effect? Either way.. W00T!! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

Lol, i, on the other side, havent noticed the in-game (noticed in-menu) background music until i minimized HL and after restoring it i lost my sound, then i raised volume and heared the in-game music for the first time <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

Not sure what default volume sound is... my volume is set to 0.2
Maybe that's why musicvolume overpowered regular volume?

Yes. It was done by Jerermy Soule, who did the music for Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, Unreal 2, Icewind Dale, Total Annihilation, etc. He's a great guy, and I highly suggest you turn up the (somewhat low) default music volume in NS to hear it better.

CL_musicvolume is set to 90 by default if I recall, and it becomes much more evident ingame if you go up by 20 unit increments, depending on your soundcard. It's great stuff, and you recognize a variation on one tune if you watch the NS 1.0 Trailer movie as well. They are MP3 files and can be played in WMP, WinAmp, etc. if you just want to hear them...
