Will The Electrified Tf Be A Visible Effect?

care to comment?
Im wondering if it will be immediately apparent when you look at the TF that it is electrified. It would be more realistic if you couldn't tell but I'm not sure if that would have a positive gameplay effect. It would be rather funny though to see an entire team of skulks with bad communication go *pop* one after another against it.

Any thoughts on which way it should be?

I think a glow effect would be sufficient.

I think that a glow and a constant humming would be sufficent, however most peope fail to realize that turrets are not the way games are won, there how you keep your base/outposts secure, most of the fighting will still be done with the players, and not with the turrets

GOD, that HL Glowey effect is sooooo TFC, and it would only serve to remind me that this is Halflife, where things are limited. Devise your own glowey, please, Dev team.

I imagine a fairly cool "electric" effect could be created using the particle system

Check the front page; there's a news post that includes a 1.1 changelog to date. One of the new items is the ability to upgrade a turret factory so that it deals electrical damage to melee attackers.

How about nothing? An electric fence in present day doesn't have electricity arcing off of it. Why shouldn't stuff in the future be the same?

thats what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure how that would psychologically effect gameplay. It is frustrating to be killed by something you cant see.

We know Coil. We want info on whether there's a visible effect.

They could probably use the 'sparking' effect that is used when building, but do it in blue/white instead of orange.

Yeah, personally I'd like to see some sparking. Not too much, just enough to tell you to turn back when you're 3 feet from the factory and closing fast.

Depends on how much damage it does.

If it's 10-20 points per bite, there's enough feedback that you can make an informed decision to stop attacking the TF.

If it's much over 30, there should be some visual/auditory cue. Otherwise, you create a situation where any TF in the game might insta-kill you if you attack it. That gives the marines a pretty big psychological advantage.

Sure, you're right. But I was making the point that I don't think bolts of electricity should shoot out of it at every angle. Something subtle, sure, but nothing obnoxious. I would rather it just make a slight occasional buzzing noise, (or, as someone said, the build spark) if anything.

    1) having the turret arc electricity all the time would look silly. such a waste of electricity, really. however, the occasional ZAP whenever the turret is touched would probably be very fitting. a white/blue spark from the turret would do the job, though a spiffier spark could also be used.

    2) having a bzzzz sound would make up for a lack of visual clues while approaching the turret. i would personally think it more impactful for there to be both the standard beep.. beeps and bzzzzz in the background as well.

ex// run, run, run, hear high pitched beep, slow down while looking about warily, pick up on a low pitched and ominous bzzzzzzz, spot the turrets and factory placed in a silly location, carefully jump into a covered corner, bypassing the electricity, munch the factory, hear the beeps and buzzing stop, them continue to munch metal.

I have no doubt that the upgrade will be costly, or TFs will become more expensive, but I'd absolutely laugh my head head off to see the first com that tries to set up an electrified wall block; would definetely be more deadly than the cost-inefficent CC wall. (especially funny if aliens had melee attackers only and gorges managed to build D chambers RIGHT beside TF munching skulks.)
