another question though; does shooting a cloaked building decloak it?
I don't see why shooting something would decloak it. I mean, from the amount of splattering coming off it you're likely to know something is there, and in any good sci-fi world shooting a cloaked object won't decloak it unless you hit the cloaking device itself.
if you think about it the way it is in the NS universe, OC cloaking should prevent sieging. If the marine cant see it, how could he relay coordinates to the Comm computer and have the siege fire?

Having sencories cloak buildings is going to be odd. It would do very little since buildings are so big that marines could see the outline with out any trouble. It seems that sencories should just cloak alien players that stand near them. Of course all these questions will be answered when 1.1 is released.
Don't forget that for cloaking, you need a sensory chamber. For sensory chambers, you need the appropriate hive, which I suspect will still usually be the third one but certainly no sooner than the second. I don't see how this ability could possibly be overpowered, and its usefulness is questionable since pings will uncover everything. I suspect the only thing cloaked bases will actually do is hinder hive attacks(and sieges if they don't work on cloaked buildings) unless the commander is personally watching.
... except for the rumours (which I think may have been confirmed) that all upgrades will be available on one hive, and it's just their levels that increase as you get more hives built.

Question: is cloaking still going to just be transparent; ie not full invisible? Because it would be very silly if the cloaking is just partial transparency used to try to hide a hive. Think about it: transparency (camouflage in general, really) only works if the enemy doesn't know where to look. They know EXACTLY where to look at the hive. Even worse - you'd be able to tell whether there's no hive there or whether there's a cloaked hive there because you can tell how transparent it is.

Having cloaking negate marine sight-to-siege would be nice too. The comm can't be everywhere...
Marine: We're at subspace. Noone is here. Drop a phase gate.
Comm drops phase.
Marine: SPAM HEALTH WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!
Comm: What?!?
Marine: Their hive was cloaked; we lost sub.

Well maybe that's not going to happen but I dream a lot :/
hehehe
