when you become a very good skulk, you should pick off lone marines one by one, each will leave you with about 20 hp and no armor, in that instance regen is good becaus eyou wotn ahve to run to the hive to heal. never attack a marine with less than 70/10 because youll die in under a second. wait and heal up and you can jsut keep killin em. when youre 8 kills to one death youl feel so good. then go abck to carapace and kamikaze on them, each time youll get one or two and it pays off int he long run.
All i can say is practice... Sometimes you can't help being killed if the marines are godly. Anyways just get comfortable with controlling a skulk, and get headphones and turn your volume up so you can hear marines. You'd be surprised how important sound is in this game, you can basically tell where and when your opponent is coming from at all times. Anyways just ambush, dont rush into rooms blantantly, just be careful =D You can be a leet skulk but in a room like viaduct a decent marine can rape you if you dont approach it right.

Lots of good points there's no need to repeat, except I've found it helps significantly if you only bite when their directly in your field of view. Holding down bite just obscures your view and makes your audible presence that much greater.
Just glide around, strafing, jumping off walls... basically, confuse the **** out of them. Then, pounce and lightly tap your mouse button as your coming in... as someone pointed out earlier, the bite distance is a small way away from them so you dont have to be directly on them.
Para is your best friend too... para a marine, run off, give him the security that you've **** off, then stalk him to his death. This can be a lot more effective than actually killing them straight of the bat, because it puts them on the defensive and very paranoid about what their doing, so they dont do anything all that productive.
Any idiot who runs after you to seek revenge once you've parasite them is exactly that, and idiot. Easiest skulk food in the NS world really.

If a marine can't kill a skulk before it regenerates to full life, then the TSA should just take his LMG and decommission him on the spot. If you want to play better as a skulk, regen won't help you.
That being said, I agree with the previously mentioned "ambush from the floor". If you wait right outside a door and then jump around right as he gets there and bite, you still suprise him and instantly close the range, but you're not vulnerable while you drop down and try to catch up with him. Also, if you jump out before the marine appears, it ensures that he has to react to you, and not you to him, giving you another edge. Listening for footsteps and parasite works well for this. Making this suprise attack isn't possible if you're hanging over the doorway, because you have to drop down before you can move forward into the door.
Most skulks I've played against who used Regen all the time were the ones who used the Point of View cheat. These skulks never helped attack any marine structures, they preferred to have a nice kill ratio.
Regen IS useful in some circumstances. Like when theres only one DC. Since theres only one DC, I get Regen, which makes it the same as attacking with no upgrades, but with the added bonus of not needing to go to the hive to heal.

Ambushing, unfortunately, doesn't work with good marines whereas trying to close and kill them works sometimes.
