Will we get to see the outside?

Of the ships that is.
As great as the innerds of the ship look, when will we get a glimps of the whole, outter side of the ship? Or is that possible? I'm thinking a mapper wouldn't -need- to go so far as to model out the entire outside of the ship which the player might wind up not even seeing, but I remember that bright red one from a while back (Cargo ship wasn't it?). That may be the case, but do the mappers atlest have some form of concept model of the outside or whatnot?

*Asking in the event he sees something to.. uh... "draw from", so to speak.*

I'm creating a level for the game which is set on a high-orbit spacestation. Docked to the station is a cargo ship. You're able to board the ship while playing. It's not there yet, but I'm planning on slapping a window in there somewhere on the ship looking out at the exterior of the space station. Not exactly the same as what you're suggesting, but...

and in my map, you'll be able to look out the window and see chunks of the ship that my map takes place in floating in a loose orbit around the central mass, since they got blown off/were ejected during a battle.

I....I hate you. In my map, you'll see the outside of the ship, which is really nothing more than the infinite void created by the horrors of my mapping. And you'll be sucked out, and maybe there will be an eyeless Sam Niell talking about how you don't need eyes to see where you're going. That crazy Sam!

I think it would be nice if on certain areas of a map (for instance, on the bridge of a ship) you could look out over parts of the posterior. But it would be too much to place that over every area in a map.

    Good idea, though.

A mod I played did this, Darkstar I think it was called? But they used entirly different maps for the exterior of the ship (for flyby cameras). It looked damn cool, but I get the impression that the HL engine isn't powerfull enough to do the full interior plus exterior of a ship. At least, not all on one map.

Yea there are huge differences on what u can do with single player mod and multi player mod, for instance on dark star they probably never had a look at the network code.

USS Darkstar by Neil Manke was pwn. I don't recall playing it very well, since it was a year or more ago that I ran through it. But we don't need to see the entire exterior of the ship, only parts of it in certain areas. Being able to see areas of the ship from a viewport along with the *sky* would add immensely to the atmosphere a map.

unreal turny for the ps2 maped the entire ship. If I remember you could use the teleport disks to get outside.
