Directx9 Installation

<div class="IPBDescription">oh what a headache!</div> I've read mixed reports of people with DX9.0a (thats the latest version over at M$ DX site). i downloaded the installer, but after the install BAR finishes at the last second, a error message pops up asking me to redo the setup again?

currently i have DX8.1 (a line from the saved .txt file after running DXDIAG reads <b>DirectX Version: DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0810)</b>). I thought i shd do the upgrade as i update my DETS to the current version (43.45/winXP) for my GF2 MX400. Im currently using 30.82.

perhaps some here have installed the updates above and shed some light on these? <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Hmmm... better to do one, wait a week, and do the other.

    I'd recommend going to the new Detonator drivers first, play for a week and make sure your stability hasn't gone south, then go to DX9. In both cases, I would (reactivate if disabled) System Restore and create checkpoints before each installation, as this is the only way you'll be safely going back, especially in DX9's case, which does not have an uninstall (like most previous DX's). Then turn it back off when done to save the system resources.

    But I am running both without issues on XP Professional, using GeForce4 Ti 4200, if that's some solace.

    Monse:

    yes, i made a restore point - it was enabled by default- before doing any updates. i've downloaded the latest sblive drivers, dets and the DX9 web setup. I've re-ran the setup...and the same message appeared. This error message:

    <b><span style='color:red'>"Downloading a file necessary for installation failed. please run setup again.</span></b>

    not very helpful is it? from what it says i *think* its got to do with this file in their servers. i've also attached an image of it for simplistic sakes.

    guess i'll go install 43.45 first <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Ahhh, I thought it was an installation error. Go here for a regualr full download that does not require their server to feed files as needed. Note that this is a much bigger DL, as it encompasses the whole gamut of DX9a:
