<div class="IPBDescription">wth is this</div> Ok, so I'm playing CS <shuddap>, and this interesting thing just started happening today.

In the middle of a round, suddenly, my monitor turns off (not really off, just the orange light comes on instead of the green, indicating no input from the comp i guess), then a moment later comes on with the big red text "OUT OF RANGE" on it.

So um, wth is this...

:confounded look:

17" kds visual sensations monitor. using reforce to set the refresh rate to a comfortable 75hz. might have something to do with that...

On my monitor, it means that either the resolution is being forced to a setting not compatible with the monitor, or the refresh rate is set too high.

At first this sounded like a problem I had with my old computer's monitor, but you didn't mention any burning smells, so it's probably not as bad. Having a monitor internally fry itself while you're playing a game is not cool... and the smell was horrible.

KDS Monitor is the problem. I have a 19" visual sensations, and I swear on Walt Disney's grave that I'll never buy another one.

My monitor likes to make a loud high-pitch ringing noise at any res below 800x600... meaning EVERY TIME I BOOT... stupid piece of crap...

My ViewSonic does the same thing - but only half the time.

When I used to get the "Out of range" message I
simply pulled the wire out of the back of the monitor
and then shoved it back in (without switching anything off)
    it worked great everytime.
Think mine was an NEC monitor.

dont have an issue with my ViewSonic 21 ...

well, I run at 60mhz (because of the large resolution).

Many people laugh or are discusted when I tell them this - but the simple fact is anything higher is actualy uncomfortable to me and gives me a head ache ..

perhaps because I've been using it for so long ...

    /me shrugs

I use 60 khz or whatnot, since that's the maximum my monitor can handle. It's getting old.

I have seen what low refresh rates look like, but I don't notice the flicker with 60.
