For those playtesters who have been commanders, What strategies do you find most effective, and I'm thinking more troop placement than building and research. How do you direct the marines to improve the chances of a successful attack or defense?
Troop placement is really not an issue. If you try placing marines in any sort of specific manner, you'd best learn that it just -won't- work. The players wander around too much, and you've got -way- too much on your mind to worry about whether this guy should be here, or five feet over.
As for when you should send out squads to attack... that changes every build. Some builds it has been "Stay in base as long as you can building as much as you can before moving out" and in others it has been "Move out as absolutely soon as possible" It changes from build to build. Flayra is trying to get the right balance.
Well, flanking is always a good thing, however its hard to manage, but if done correctly it works wonders, most strats you'd use would be the same as other RTS's.
