for some reason now. I am getting this within 5 minutes of every game i play. My ping is fine at 1st but once i start running around it shoots thru the roof and it displays that message of Cl_flushentitypacket. This never happened untill recently. I dont know what is wrong, i have been messing around w/ my models installing new ones and new sprites. This has never happened tho before when ive used custom models. It may just be my ISP SbcYahoo is having problems, i dunno. Here are my specs

600mhz P3
256 syncdramm
geforce 2ti 64mb
56k modem<-----I know it sux, but it has never given me problems this frequently. My normal internet connection never gets any slowdown. just when im in game.

    Find this in your config

    rate "#"

    And change it to

    rate "3000"

    Or

    rate "2500"

I have just upgraded my PC from an AMD K6-2 30Mhz, Voodoo 3 196Mb RAM :-(, to a
    AMD XP220+, GeForce TI4400 128Mb, 512 Mb RAM, :-)

I am still on my dial-up with FreeUK.com

I got the CL_flushentitypackets with the old PC and I still get them with the new one :-((((

I also play on a P3 750 laptop, 8Mb ATI graphics card and a Xircom PC Card modem, although NS looks crap on it I get very few CL_flushentitypackets on it. When I get any they only last about 5-10 seconds.

Also is there any definitive list of things to check/change with regards to this problem.

    Thanx in advance

    Losbad

Its not a computer issue. Its your connection to your ISP.

Follow the earlier post about changing your rate.

Rate is directly comparable with how fast you normally download files.

ie. If you download at say 4.5k/sec regularly from sites then set your rate to 4500 etc.

The other thing you can do is ring your phone company and ask for your phoneline to be tested and maybe have the signal amplified to increase your connection bitrate.

the problem only appears when ther is a problem with the data transfer. your modem for the big pc might be set up in some arcane way. Perhaps it connects at too high a rate and that forces the modem to cycle datarates to keep up with noise. Or you could have enable various kinds of retransmission protocols and compression. Always make sure data compression and retransmission on the modem is OFF. Computerbased compression is fine (software). But retransmission enabled can REALLY make a mess out of online games.

I think Roque is right. I've only seen this error when ISPs are acting up. Try playing another HL mod and see if you are still get it (I bet you do).

I've had up to a few minutes of Cl_entitypacketflushing when my ISP choked on something. I tried to stay and see if it helped. I was totally frozen for the entire period, and entities flipped out of view, it was quite a sight to behold. But couldn't modem it self be the cause?

I used to get this all the time when I was on 56k. These are the settings I used to fix the problem when I played CS on my modem:

    cl_updaterate 22
    cl_cmdrate 22
    rate 4500

Try those and see if your flushentities go away...

One of my friends always explained it this way: When your game is sending information faster than it can transfer, it stalls and flushes all the entities for a second. When it gets back on its feet it comes back. I got cable and ive never seen it since.

I have isdn and our clan is using external voice comms and some of them take too much bandwidth and that causes that cl_flushentitypacket. The problem is I'm out of bandwidth. I lowered my cl_rate and that fixed the problem. I'm quite sure it's because of too much traffic like James said.
