Unreal 2 Is Terrible

GWARGWAR Join Date: 2002-11-01 Member: 2297Members, Contributor

Im not impressed....
UT 2003 Ran damn smooth for me, Without a Hitch with all details on medium, and simple shadows and it looked NICE. (This was V1.0)

I installed Unreal2, and I set all the detail to LOW and it was still choppy as heck... On top of that it takes FOREVER to save and load. (If it doesnt crash mid-save of course)

SIN I have that game

Unreal 2 on low detail looks terrible... NS is miles ahead of it

These "Engine tweaks" they did for unreal 2 sure sucked....

And the gameplay. What's this with short games lately? 8 hours and finished. WTH? I hate short games. Where's the 30 hours of fun that I put into GTA Vice City? I simply don't buy short games anymore, I hate it.

I didnt much care for Unreal 2, the AI **** me off, and my gun must've been broken or something cause nothing killed them. Graphics, it didnt look any better than UT2k3 did, I even thought that UT2k3 looked better than Un2. Voice acting was decent, but could've been better. Overall I would give the game a 70, it has some feet to stand on, but it can barely walk with them... maybe they should've put a little more effort on UT2k3 cause it still seems unfinished in some aspects compared to how nice the first one was put together

I'm glad my Dad bought a copy, and handed it to me when he finished. Saved myself $40-60.

Oh.. and an Ath XP2200+ with a R9500 Pro will run U2 at max detail settings, max shadow, 1280x1024 at 'playable' speeds. (read: it never slowed to a slideshow for me, and I still go back to play the sniper rifle sections again and again)
But yeah... the exceedingly short storyline more than just kinda sucked.

SiN was pwn, it was the first game I ever played that had hitboxes. I only played the demo, I loved the bit where that guy shot the bird out of the sky.

I was about 13 at the time I was playing it and I got my mum over to look at it and said "Look, if you shoot them in the head, they die quicker". She stopped me playing it after that. D:þ

I've never known why to this day.

GWAR: Don't say a game is terrible just because your computer can't handle it. Unreal 2 uses the Unreal Warfare (UT2003) engine but it's got a lot more detail in the levels and a lot of effects that weren't used in UT2003.

One thing I think Unreal 2 did really well, even for its short length, was character development. I did feel like I knew the characters and had some sort of attachment to them within the story. *shrug* Maybe that's just me. Though I think the ending would have had more of an emotional impact if some people *cough*ComproxIThink*cough* hadn't given it away in IRC.

I enjoyed it, personally. It's not the groundbreaking game most people expected, but I still think it was done pretty well. Then again, I still have an application in-processing at Legend, so I may be unconsciously biased.

You guys have hyped the game to much before it went to the stores. I dident care so much about UII and when I tested it out, I really got impressed.
So dont hype games and think that it will be so good as you will think! You will always get disappointed then.

I didn't like how they tried to milk the franchise for more cash by releasing 2 seaperate games. UT2003 (Multiplayer) and UT2 (Single Player). If they would have merged them into 1 game, it would have been a huge value.

As for game length, short games suck! Im still living in the days of Baldurs Gate 2 where theres more then 500 hours worth of gameplay, a long twisting story with many niches along the way.

That excuse for a D&D game Bioware released, what was it? Nevergonnaplaythisagain Nights? The game that ripped out the balls of D&D -- The party combat system, replaced it with some nice graphics. Then they tried to give D&D a sex change by taking it from the rule ridden, math driven, stat tweaking behemoth to a pansy nice looking, easy to play, no effort to beat, and sucky classes to play POS that it was released as!

Hm, there I go again into my NWN rant.

/me waits patiently for Enter the Matrix, and Deus Ex 2, quality games

athlon 1.2 GHZ with a Geforce3 Ti. My computer could handle medium everything on UT2003 and it looked ALOT better than unreal 2

I had everything off, shadows, NO detail textures and everything low.... And it was SLOW and looked terrible.

Its a good thing I warezed it, I wouldnt want to pay for a game like this.

I spoke to a few people in the #naturalselection irc
a few weeks back and got their opinions on it.
I wasn't sure which game to buy out of UT2K3 or Unreal2.
Apparently the first 2/3 levels in Unreal2 are great but
anything after that is as-if the developers got bored
and gave up on it.
Take it back and get Black Hawk Down

So, you never played Quake 1 or 2? No Jedi Knight? Damn shame. :P

And in regards to UT2003 running smoothly but Unreal2 not, Unreal2 is a single player game, therefore if the framerate drops to 30fps, its no big deal. But in multiplayer, people want speed speed speed over detail so they don't lose, so the levels and models are designed with that in mind.
