A map idea. Got any thoughts on it?
Many of us who are big NS fans and have read Jeff Paris' "Six Days in Sanjii: Part 1" have awaited a sequel for quite some time. Xect recently made a good point in this thread, some people with shorter memories may be forgetting about it already. So rather than just await the 2nd part of it, I've got an idea. Get Jeff Paris' permission to turn the 1st part into one of NS' first official singleplayer maps, perhaps as a training mission if something goes wrong with the one currently in production.

True, it would take work and skill. It would take the author's permission. It would take good voice actors. It may take more scripting than most mappers like to use. But if you look at the short story's text, from the line ?Everyone check in? onwards could make an amazing experience.

Shorten it down a bit for the sake of doing less voice acting work, and you've got a setup for a perfect training map:
You've got squad movement, getting used to having medpacks dropped to you, building structures like the armory, getting and reloading weapons like the LMG and shotgun. Throwing in a weld point wouldn't take much effort to blend in with the rest of the plot; the player could weld a vent, door, power source for the CC to build structures, anything would work.
All the player would have to learn on his/her own from online play are things like the jetpack, HA, HMG, commander view, motion tracking, and playing as an alien. etc; it seems like a lot, but keeping the really cool stuff as a surprise is a good thing.

Given this, the only issue left that I see is AI for teammates and the skulk (and mouth movement while fellow marines speak, if you want to get picky). The skulk's actions could probably be scripted, and I'm sure someone could come up with how to handle squadmates.

Have any thoughts? Do you know anyone capable of this? Do you think I'm crazy for suggesting a project of this scale? Post away!

I like the idea, but unless new chapters come out in time with plenty of action in them, what works really well on page will come out rather boring in-game. Unless my memory has -completely- failed me, they only see one alien, and it scarpers off without recieving a single bullet wound. That chapter in itself would work well as a short tension-builder, but unless we get several new chapters soon that have plenty of action, I don't really see it happening. Good idea, though, I still would like to see a nice single-player episode of NS, it has the potential to -really- scare people
