When I started playing NS (the night it got released on halloween), I loved the game. Nobody really knew how to gorge or command, so back in 1.0 everything went slow..commanders built tf's and turrets as the most logical thing to defend base..in 1.01 and 1.02 this still went on, but in 1.03 people started realizing how valuable those starting resources were, and the phase rushes began. People built 2 ips, an armory, + obs, and expected the people to actually be able to aim and defend base.
It was common for 2 hives to be locked down before the gorge got his 2nd rt up. People started to work at a faster pace, the skulks realized they had to defend a hive before the fatty was able to waddle in and bring himself to build it.
Marines also began to see that if aliens get 3 hives = bad. So they realized the comm needs resource towers + hives. This all sped up the game a great deal (I remember when it got released that people walked through a hive location and just left).
Now finally in 1.04, people know the game. Kharaa realize they need to get 3 hives before the marines get upgraded enough to slice dem fades with the lmg, as marines need to realize that they need to stay alive long enough to get upgraded.
I've played a lot of epic battles of 2 hours where I actually picked up my brother & mother and told them to come back in an hour cause I had to get my tf upgraded to siege in subspace and give my heavys gls cause hmgs weren't cutting it vs the umbra.
Just as well as I've played 2+ hour games where a lone lerk finally managed to get the tf down and everyone yelling over the mic to get the pg cause the tf was down.
I can't imagine that these magical moments are gonna get cramped down into 11 minutes. Where's the fun? Where's the thrill of shooting down 2 fades cause the turrets aren't going to hold if in 11 mins, it'll be over anyway?
I've seen a lot of people agree with this, long games rocked, so I sincerely hope before 1.1 comes out, this will be changed.
