Curses, you won't be able to leverage Windows Movie Maker 2.0 then...
Well, the way to do it is to.
1. Create your DEM file 2. Start a new LAN game, then open your console and type 'startmovie (your dem file name here) 30' (no quotes - that will convert your DEM file into BMP files at a rate of 30 frames per second. You will need a lot of disk space to do this, as each one is 2MB). 3. Use a movie program that can convert single frame still images into an AVI (Which if you had XP would be on your PC; without it, you can google and find an old shareware copy of 'videomach', which is kind of crappy but will work, or shell out big cash for Adobe Premiere. I'd also recommend sinalling the latest Divx codec from http://www.divx.com for more efficient video compression).
Voila, movie. I know you said you wanted to make an mpeg, but I'd recommend against it for quality and size reasons. If you wanted to though, you can use your video app to do so, after you grab the latest mpeg encoders from http://www.mpeg.org
You can also try Bink Video if you want your video as an .exe file in fullscreen for example. Or a program like Fast Movie Processor to convert all these BMPs into an AVI file.

i reduced the resolution from 1024x768 to 640x480. A 16 second clip is 38.1 megs, including the short song i added.
I used videomach, it went pretty smoothly. I got my hands on adobe premier, which I'm still trying to figure out how to use. Doesn't seem to want to go at the pace i want it to go as.
Here it is: http://tuzakey.com/~roach/movies/shotgun.avi ~ 38.1 megs
Hey, that's neato! Now you can see why I was so edgy during the NS trailer creation process - took us 3 months to make 2.5 minutes of footage.
If you want to shrink that down a bit, and you are using DiVX as your codec, you can increase the compression levels somewhat to tune your image sizes, versus quality.
Also, it's a bit dark (that's a side effect of the NS overbrightening system with demo's do not capture - you might try using video mach's gammam brightness, and contrast filters to spruce it up a bit.
Kick arse flick though - the last kill was sweet!

sheesh, it was right infront of me the entire time.
Tried that, worked out pretty well, I also put it in divx encoding, added a different song, and reduced the video quality to 50%. Came out to be 18 megs for a demo that was about 2 minutes long. As opposed to 16 seconds, 38 megs.
Sweetness, thanks, i'll post the final one when I'm finished with it
wow monsieur your my hero fixed the demo. I'll post what i put onto a movie.
I finished the first one i was making, its longer, has better music, and i put it in a divx format. 18 megs too. http://tuzakey.com/~roach/ns/roachems/shot...tgun-final2.avi not a whole lot different from the first one you saw, so iono if it will be too entertaining
Finished more or less: http://tuzakey.com/~roach/ns/roachems/roac...ems%5bAR%5d.avi
its pretty big, 59 megs, well worth the wait, 3:14 minutes.
Special thanks for MonsE and me nice :]

Another thing: you can try to make some transitions betrween scenes but don't abuse it.
One more thing: if you want to record videos with sound you can try Total Recorder. It works well.
