Yeah well it is quite obnoxious when small aliens come up ( <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> ) and you can't see them b/c of muzzle flash? ya know? I hear 1.1 is reducing it, but anything I can do in the meantime???

    Just sit tight and wait until 1.1 is finished <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    if it really bothers you that much, go get the reduced muzzleflash thats floating around on the boards somewhere.

    if you really want it, youll take the time to look for it. or someone else will post a link

    theres a way to remove it now, which is considered an exploit and will be removed in 1.1 :/

    Ya... ( totally pointless post™ )

    I don't really think that there is anyway to reduce the muzzle flash as far, but flayra said in his 1.1 checklist that the flash will be less obstructive.

    Generally speaking, altering the muzzle flash is considered exploitative and, for instance, would be cheating in an official match.

    The easiest way to remove it is to simply delete the file. Another possibility is to check out the "Sprite Artists" post in the Models & Skins forum; there are many, many replacement sprites there, including a few muzzle flash sprites.

    NS 1.1 will feature a reduced muzzle flash. If you dislike the idea of "cheating," just wait for 1.1.

    bind a key to r_drawviewmodel "0" and another key to r_drawviewmodel "1" , this turns your models on and off so you can use it like a toggle, turning models off removes the marines gun from your screen along with the muzzle flash (which is absolutely ridiculous at the moment i have to say) it also removes the skulks teeth when you bite.

    thats how you do it, as posted above it is outlawed in some leagues/ladders, but its up to you whether or not you want to use it on publics.

    If it's really bothering you, you could try a higher resolution (which means the muzzle flash and weapon model take up less of the screen) and you could try burst-firing instead of holding down.

    The weapon model and muzzle flash take the same amount of screen space in all resolutions, so increasing your resolution will not help you see better.

    Oh? Didn't know that.

    what changing your muzzleflash is considered cheating? damn I gotta have to find the default again <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
  • JowerJower Join Date: 2003-02-12 Member: 13448Members
    Of course it's cheating
    It makes you see better than everyone else
    That's an "Unfair Advantage"™
  • Cereal_KillRCereal_KillR Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1837Members
    I've never thought of it this way... I mostly thought about having a nicer looking m-flash. I thought my X-hair was more like cheating but not quite still <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Changing crosshair is cheating? It just tells you where the middle of the screen is, no big deal.

    Anyways, it's a moot point because, like so much else, it'll all be different in 1.1.
  • Cereal_KillRCereal_KillR Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1837Members
    yes exactly it's a "moot point" but you can see better where you're aiming. I don't think changing mflash is any more cheating than changing Xhair
  • JowerJower Join Date: 2003-02-12 Member: 13448Members
    It is
    Changing xhair's would be cheating to if your new one made you see better
    But the original one isen't blocking your view
    It's like the nightvision scopes for MOH:AA for example <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
    And the ones with no black circle around
    etc
    But NS has no scopes and the xhair is already good so...
    Oh darn..
    Babbling again aint I ?
  • Cereal_KillRCereal_KillR Join Date: 2002-10-31 Member: 1837Members
    what if your muzzleflash is just prettier and not making you see better?
  • JowerJower Join Date: 2003-02-12 Member: 13448Members
    Well if it's the same size I guess it's not cheating...
    Like changing it to blue or something...

    This is probably off topic but...

    Am I the only one not really bothered by it? I mean, I always play aliens when I can, but sometimes I get stuck on that rine team ( <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> ), and I can't say it's that big of a deal...

    Guess it's a matter of opinion then, and reducing the muzzle flash certainly will not have any bad sides to it...

    Let's wait and see what 1.1 brings us and if it really changes alot considering muzzle flash

    just remember, you're firing a machine gun for crying out loud, it's not a supersoaker!!! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    My grandpa used to say:
    Without a decent flash it can't be a decent gun!

    I haven't actually ever noticed the flash...
    But still
  • ArosAros Join Date: 2003-04-14 Member: 15506Members
    i think if it's the same size.. it'd be legal, if it's only a color change or something, just get a sprite editor or model editor.. which ever the m-flash is.
