Paypal (constellation)

This is not really NS problem but this still may be the most appropriate forum. I wanted to pay those $20 to support NS. Clicked on the paypal link, filled in name, credit card number etc. I live in Czech republic but this one is missing in the (very short) list of countries. So I choosed India hoping it would still let me do the payment :-)

But no, it says

<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->
The credit card number you have entered cannot be verified. Only credit cards from approved countries may be used on PayPal.
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

God damn .... The "country" entry is required but my country is not included ! And even India is not an "approved country". I have never worked with PayPal so there may exist some way .... or is the service that stupid or just focused on US ? Can you help me ? Or is there some other means of sending money ? I really don't know what exactly "a check or money order" is or if I can even get one as non-US citizen.

    morethen likely your country does not have laws regaurding the things that PayPal wants protection from (or there may be laws disalowing things like pay pal)

    if you poke at paypal's websight you will find that no, the Czech Republic is not suported

    and I for one resent the implications that an american company that does not (or very possibly can NOT) suply its services to your country is 'stupid'
    If you hade taken the time to poke around on ther sight you would see that they have to restric their dealings with banks with certain countries, why I don't know. It probably has to do with what I stated before, there are either laws prohibitting their actions or there are no laws defending them from scamers (trust me PayPal is a very high target for scammers)

    As for paying the $20

    can you write checks? (It seems odd to me that you don't know what one is, but then again they might just be an american thing)

    If you can write a check, sign it up and send it off to Flay

    If you can't I would suggest going down to your bank and asking them about who you can send $$ to an american organization that requires a check or money order.

    You can send cash money... but make sure it's not visible from outside...

    Yesh. We certainly recommend NOT sending cash though. Wire transfers, money orders, checks that are valid in the US (ask your bank), etc. Cash is not a good idea though...

    As for PayPal.. it's a private company, and they can basically do what they want. Write them a letter saying 'darnit, we czechs don;t want to send checks! Make your silly software work in our country too.' They want your business, so the more of you that do it, the more likely it is to happen.

    That's capitalism 101, for all you commies out there... supply and demand pwns M4rx.

    lol @ "supply and demand pwns M4rx"

    hehe, we czechs (prounounced at least by us as checks) don't wana send checks

    /me groans

    oh, and if you do email em, ask em why they are not offering servizes in your country, I am sorta interested (I wonder if it has to do with banking laws)

    I have bought several books and music CDs from Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other companies using credit cards, without any problems. I even made a donation to faqs.org via some donation service offered by Amazon (don't recall the name).

    But I understand and agree that it's PayPal's holy right to choose their clients. It seemed as an unnecessary obstruction to me first. E.g. Amazon did not give a s... what country I am from. But PayPal's business is different so it really may not be so easy as just paying for stuff bought from online stores.

    As for checks, I know this thing a bit, but only from American movies ;-) Have not ever seen it in reality. People use cash or credit cards here. I will probably ask my bank if I can write one.

    hmm, very interesting I find it amuzing that something like a check is not world wide (they are just so normal to me)

    how do you get paid? (seeing how as the term here would be paycheck ;D)
  • zubatazubata Join Date: 2003-02-04 Member: 13090Members
    How do I get paid ? That's simple, money are transfered between bank account of my employer and my own bank account, then I can get the money from ATM or pay directly with card.

    Checks are rarely used here.

    It's written:

    <span style='font-size:21pt;line-height:100%'> <span style='color:red'><b>CHEQUE</b> </span></span>

    Sorry, but after the 30th time I felt the need to point it out.

    hmm, thats interesting I didn't know citibank was an international corporation.

    Try talking to them and see if there is any way they could give you an american CC for use with paypal.
