<div class="IPBDescription">check it out and post your thoughts</div> ok, i'm done with majority of my exams today, so i can work on the ultralisk.
i have done quite some work a few days ago, so i can actually finish the model today <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Behold, the most monstrous beast in the galaxy!!!!!!!!!!!!

please post your thoughts. if you guys like it, i can start animation now,
i will ask mercatorn if he is interested in skinning this model after he finishes the skinning for mutalisk model.

Please note, i used starcraft in game unit image, starcraft manual concept art, unit shot under the zerg description section in SC manual , ie, the original blizzard stuff, as reference.

I DID NOT use any reference from Starcraft Ghost. As i think it's not accurate.

Enjoy the model shots.

Not bad, but you have to really chop off a chunk of those tusk.

Take about 1/2 of it off and probablymake it closer together so you want see an Onos coming a mile away because of clipping.

    Other than that.
    Nice job! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> hehe

they are huge kaiser blades attached to it's arms.

as for the length of those blades, i really don't want to shorten them, since that is a main characteristic of ultralisk, it has monstrous blades. if they are cut short, then it's just not like ultralisk.

for the clipping issue, i will test it in game after i finish the animation, if it is really a serious issue here, then i will do something about it. Otherwise, i don't want to shorten the blades.

    thanks for the feedback though

the model is finished, i won't make any changes to it if you guys think it's ok.

i will do the animation , as usual,

for the skinning, i have contacted mercatorn, and waiting for his reply.

OMG SECKS!!! Man who cares about the clipping leave those beautiful blades of ultimate death on there! It doesn't matter how far away you can see it from, as soon as you see an Onos you may as well type kill in console anyway.

Do a test to position the blades in a more vertical fashion (like the hydralisk and fade claws) and see how that looks. In the concept sketches I did of a NS ultralisk I did that and it fit the bounding boxes MUCH much better but still looked quite the badass.

<b>::EDIT:: Also it looks like you should put some more polies into the joints on the legs and the thigh area so that it doesnt distort during animation ::EDIT::</b>

the problem with vertical positions is that the slashing animation has to be vertical movement too. And it's just not like ultralisk at all. Ultra's slashing movement is horizontal. As a matter of fact, i don't really care about bounding box, there is no headshot in NS, and for onos, ppl tend to shoot at the middle of it anyway.

i think joint's have enough polies. Shouldn't be a problem for animation. I don't want to add unnecessary polies, since it's for Half life.

thanks for the feedback though hyper,
how's the drone status btw, i'm rdy to animate it as long as u finish the model <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    That looks fabulous. (:

    1) I agree that the blades might need to be a little shorter, just to keep it within the original Onos' bounding box. Either way you're shrinking the thing pretty substantially to make it fit the hull, so I don't see it as *too* heartbreaking... though I love them as long as they are. -edit- One option might be to just have the non-attacking animations with the blades curled in and overlapping slightly.

    2) Also agreed on concerns about insufficient polys in the legs; looks like the "thighs" are going to stretch quite a bit in animation. However, the Ultra's movement is such that it probably won't be a huge problem.

    3) I *wish* had time to make a skin for this (if you aren't already)... looks like it'd be fun as hell. (:

    4) What's the polycount, especially as compared to the original Onos? I'm *quite* impressed with how low your lerk poly was, but it seems your usage was a little uneven here - a lot in the top of the head - which people won't see much - and not nearly as much in the body.

All in all, looks absolutely fabulous. Can't wait to see it. (:

Drone is almost done, should be finished this weekend. Also I remixed some sounds for it and am editing the spit sprite too.

Who did the animations for the hydralisk? The readme doesn't give credit by contribution, just lists names. I had a few ideas.

i will shrink the model to roughly the same size as the default onos. That is -- not including the blades though.
like i said, i won't mind too much to fit in the bounding box. ppl won't shoot at the blades anyway.

the poly count is 1983. i used more at the top body is because there are lot more details in the upper body than the lower body, which is only a few ' big' structures slapped together.

it seems that there is only thing i need to edit though, i didn't notice it earlier.
it's the width of the blades.
i'm pretty satisfied with the length of the blades. But the width needs some more work. Right now, it's too thin and too fragile. i need to widen them a little. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

i did the animation fo hydra.
i was not very satisfied with the movement animation though, but at the time there seemed no other way to do it <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->

but now, it doens't really matters, since hyper geek is gonna make a remix version in which he will redo the animation, so u might want to talk to him

    Cool. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

a suggestion, since the drone spit basicly the same kind of spikes as hydra, only that the drone 's version of spikes are shorter, so u might want to release that model for drones, only to make them shorter. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

You should make the whole body the size of the onos(maybe a bit bigger), but leave the blades out of the normal onos hitboxes, you know that I mean?

EDIT: Oh and the pictures of the SC:Ghost Ultralisk looked just like this one, thats why I wondered. I seemed to miss you saying about it not being Ghost for some reason..... <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo-->
