I think it's expecting the parameters BEFORE the $path\$file.

Use a batch compiler.
Its easyer (documentated), faster (VHE eats lots of ram) and more compfortable (better GUI).

You have to write the whole adress: C:\sierra\half-life\ns\wads.wad

Ok
I've been using the Zoners Half-Life Tools Compile GUI from someone called eddi for about 1 and a half year .
It's a very good batch compiler with an easy to handel interface.

http://www.planethalflife.com/eddi/

Its available in german and in english , in case you speak the first. You can simply set all the directorys and parameters you want , and the tool automaticly compiles it without problems.
You can even set it to shut down your PC when compiling has finished.
It's in my opinion an realy awsome tool.
Perhaps it will help you too.

Wrong I'm afraid - you only need to type in the name of the wad file *without* the extension.

Nem's Batch Compiler - Another compile front end for you to try.

Yes, use Nem's. NEVER compile through worldcraft (VHE, whatever) VHE is a system hog, you don't want it hogging all your system resources while you're trying to compile.
