Just Wondering About The Hitbox Thingys...

will they actually fit the model?
Will the clipping on the models be better in the next version? Like will you not be able to go inside an Onos or clip into many of the buildings? Is this just something that can't be fixed with the HL engine? (I've noticed that they still haven't fixed the prone hitboxes in DoD) Sorry it this has ben asked before.

    No.

There are logical reasons why this cannot be 'fixed'. Consider what happens when a skulk runs into a narrow vent head first, and then rotates left...

Models protrude out of their bounding box, this results in parts of the model which essentially have no collision detection, and are able to stick through walls. The only way to avoid this is to make models which do not protrude from their bounding box - this would mean either the Onos model is reduced to the size of a marine, or the Onos bounding box is increased to the point where the Onos cannot fit into the majority of coridoors.

Well, they could still fix 'em on the buildings, are they gonna do that? Also, I was in a gme once, and some guy said (about the Onos) "Don't shoot 'em in the head, it only hurts 'em if you shoot 'em in the middle" are the hitboxes on onus really so messed up that headshots don't even register?

im pretty sure it doesnt matter what part of the hitbox you hit, it just looks like its not damaging the head as much because instead of splats you see bullets ricochet off his skull plate.

To the best of my knowledge, hit boxes and collision boxes are different. I'm all for keeping the Onos collision box as-is, because it really helps getting around. Fixing the hitbox on it would be nice, though.

There's no such thing as "headshots" in NS

from 1001 reasons why Natural Selection is better than CounterStrike

Reason #445: Not only is the ns head box not the size of a small pond, there are no headshots in ns.

[add] please feel free to enter 454 more reasons to proceed this, it shouldn't be too hard [/add]

I belive that the hitbox for the onos can be compared to a big cylinder in the middle of it...

Yeah, obviously a headshot to an onos wouldn't take it out in one hit, but it would certainly make sense to do a little bit more damage than say and assshot.

didnt he mean the big plate on the onos's forehead wich deals no dmg when hit?

or am i missing the point here?

there is no positional damage in NS.

the onos' head is outside of his hitbox, but if you shoot at an oncoming onos in its head your bullet will travel through the head and into the hitbox inside its torso, so it will work jsut as well!

if you see an onos from the side, THEn do not shoot for the head, but instead the middle. same goes for skulks, shoot at the center, whether the head is in the way or not doesnt matter, the bullet will hit his center.

    -----

ive heard that buildings will no longer cause the jumpiness when you press yourself into them in the next version. this is due to your client thinking its not there and the server thinking it is. (opposite goes for those bars across weldable places, your client stops you but the server says you can pass on through, so you lag a little trying to crawl past one.

    The onos hit box :

It is basiclly a marines hitbox lying down

However, it is basiclly a marine on his stomach from the onos spine.
