I fear nobody can really present you with a finished, tried and true layout for your map. I'd suggest you take a look at the overviews of the official maps, watch a sci-fi movie or two, and then let inspiration run free.

If you're just looking to get a basic layout, try making a typical four-point layout and then add/remove rooms and hallways between the four points until the layout starts looking good. Once you've got a solid layout, move a few rooms around or tweak the hallways a bit until you get it just the way you want.

I'd post mine as an example, but it's a bit messy right now. I scrapped a big chunk of the layout and moved some stuff around a few days ago simply because there were sizable parts of the map that nobody would likely use. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Well what the problem is:
The way the standardmaps are textured is not good to me. Its just some texture on the wall which gives no sense. I dont know how to texture right. If you look close at the standardmaps youll see there are brushes against brushes with other texture. I dont know what is right and what is wrong.

i am putting together a few "insperation" maps...

most from movies, or art from www.conceptart.com
look at the rooms, theres one person that has the most amazing rooms, and you could build a whole map from just one picture it's so rich, BUT... if you wait long enough, you'll be able to get what i think you want, from T2K's Tutorial/Help section (modeling and impulse commands are all it's got ATM)

I've never drawn out an entire map before starting it, Well, I did it once, but I just started making it up as I mapped after getting the first street done. (mapping for DoD) That's what I plan on doing when I start my NS map, I seem to be pretty good at mapping like that.
