Debate

jetpack or lerk flight?
i would side with jetpack because your flight energy lasts longer than a lerks. then again, all you need is like 33 resources and you can fly all about, and you don't leave a jet trail behind you.

but lemme hear what you think.

What's the debate? Which is better? If that's what it is, it's kinda pointless because lerk physics are being reworked in 1.1. *shrug*

I've only been lerk like once or twice... I only play aliens if the server auto picks the team for me. I never play as aliens. I love marines.

this is a pretty silly debate, u should just say Marines VS. Aliens

edit:
this was taken from kharaa strategy forum :

yeah this is a pretty odd debate, but I heard you say flight energy lasts longer as a JPer...That's not true at all, it's much easier to stay in the air forever with a lerk...Uh oh Im debating...
• CalantusCalantus Join Date: 2003-03-23 Member: 14823Members
You want opinions? Well, I'd hafta say lerk. Why? 'Cause I spend more time lerking than JPing so I'm better at it. That is all.

Lerk. Hands down.
The lerk has millions, possibly billions of years of experience built up from the hivemind. He's a natural.

A marine with a Jetpack is just that... A foot-soldier that just had flying introduced to him by the comm saying... "Hey man, press this button and yeah.. you uhh.. fly" Yeah, you might have used one of these in a simulator way back when you first joined the TSA and went to bootcamp. Maybe even did an obstacle course with one.

Hah. Obstacle course.

Lerk > JP

*boink*

*thought pops into head*

I wonder what it was like as a newbie to first get a JP and not know what it was you got. Then you hit the jump button later and zoomed to the ceiling as you simultaneously **** your pants.

Wish I could have experienced that. (minus the last part of course)

The marine weapons are more powerful than a lerk. A marine with a HMG and a jetpack can destroy an entire hive or really screw stuff up for a good while.

Well, this debate doesn't have much point, as Lerk and JP HMG are two totally different units, the Lerk is more of a harasser, hard to get but with time and precision, can deal much damage and can waste the marines human resources because everyone is trying to kill it. A jetpacker is more of an assault unit, as he has more powerful weapons and more health/armor. You don't see a Lerk taking out an entire marine bast by itself.

It is a matter of preference. To sum it up:

Lerk = Harassing, anti infantry unit.

JP = (Matters what gun he has) but is generally used to quickly take out hives, etc.

Well said, a lerk is mainly to harass and distract marines from the real problem, the onos destroying half their base =)

then you should either change game or try varying a bit. Nothing worse than a marine stacker, imo. Vary, try both sides and stop being only marine because they have a weapon. Except of course if you're scared of having a bad score, in which case you should think about changing game

From a flight physics point of view, I find the lerk's system to be totally idiotic and wish it was even half as controllable or easy to keep up in the air as the jetpack.

I enjoy jping around, but I also like the lerk physics as they are today, makes the game interesting, you actually have to learn how to fly with the lerk.
• ZelZel Join Date: 2003-01-27 Member: 12861Members
i find lerk flight difficult (probably my lack of training), but he stays in the air indefinitely if you arent spamming spikes. jetpacks really suck with 20 FPS.

that is all.

Once you really master a lerk, you know how easy it is to just fly down a hall and decapitate a marine, or to fly into a turret farm, Umbra, take out the marines guarding and bring a turret down to half health, umbra again, take down the turret and begin munching on the turret factory, umbra a third time, and take out the TF/Phase.

All without back up. And I've done this on good servers with good marines.

After you've been lerk 50 or so times, you'll find it's the toughest alien to kill.

i know there is even THE ELITE LERK SYNDICATE™, so a CAPTAIN JP AND THE JPers™ will follow(along with it's cartoon series). well, i've rarely seen JPers win aerial combat without HMG, because they don't preactise with small clip-sized weapons mostly while hovering.if you release the jump button you'll plumet down and receive fall damage, while lerks can glide. also JPers are rambo these days, that go out alone to get the hive which how sorry it is, succeeds in, but one onone, with a lerk without HMG? not a chance in most cases.
cereal, redemption doesn't work with onos.

right now the lerk flies more like a jetpack should and the jetpack flies more like a lerk should.

Not really. Having to tap to flap your wings simulates real flight.

besides the pulsating versus constant thrust, what i said is correct.

Yes it does. They changed it, but no manual update.
