<div class="IPBDescription">Where do you get your news from?</div> I was just wondering where everyone got their news from.
I don't watch much TV at all, so I mainly get mine from the internet, and a bit from print.
Print:
- New York Times (required to have a subscription for my government class, but I'm not complaining!)
- US News and World Reports
Online:
- <a href='http://www.cnn.com' target='_blank'>CNN</a>
- <a href='http://www.foxnews.com' target='_blank'>FOX News</a>
- <a href='http://www.csmonitor.com' target='_blank'>The Christian Science Monitor</a>
- <a href='http://www.indymedia.org' target='_blank'>Indy Media</a>
- <a href='http://www.commondreams.org' target='_blank'>Common Dreams</a>

www.news.com.au for most of my needs, if I want to see what the US is doing in the world I sometimes check CNN.
- <a href='http://www.shacknews.com' target='_blank'>Shacknews</a>
- <a href='http://www.comedycentral.com/tv_shows/thedailyshowwithjonstewart/' target='_blank'>The Daily Show</a>
and David Icke.

Well if you want to include THAT type of news as well, I've gotta add:
- <a href='http://www.bluesnews.com' target='_blank'>Blue's News</a>
- <a href='http://www.fark.com' target='_blank'>FARK</a>
- <a href='http://www.slashdot.org' target='_blank'>Slashdot</a>
- <a href='http://www.gamespy.com' target='_blank'>GameSpy</a> (their Gamecube coverage isn't too shabby)
- <a href='http://www.theonion.com' target='_blank'>The Onion</a>
<a href='http://www.fark.com' target='_blank'>Fark.com</a>
<a href='http://news.google.com' target='_blank'>Google News</a>
Yes. Their investigative reporting is top notch! <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
For some opinionated yet intelligent editorials, check out - <a href='http://www.nationalreview.com/' target='_blank'>National Review</a>
I also like <a href='http://www.washingtonpost.com/' target='_blank'>The Washington Post</a> for their editorial page. They keep up with some great political cartoons like -

<!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> Classic.
<a href='http://www.fark.com' target='_blank'>Fark.com</a>

erm I'd point you towards theregister.co.uk on how appropriate Google "news" is.
I
<a href='http://news.yahoo.com' target='_blank'>Yahoo News (AP and Reuters news wires, to be specific)</a>
But I find myself spending more and more time reading history in times like these (especially when I hear hand-wringing imbeciles in the press (quickly repeated here)) who are utterly ignorant of even the most recent history. For military needs, you might try:
<a href='http://www.magweb.com' target='_blank'>Magweb (paid, but non-profit) military history resource</a>
And for general history needs that your idiot teachers failed to cover (and trust me, I went to a teacher's university - most are straight up morons):
<a href='http://www.thehistorynet.com/' target='_blank'>The History Net</a>
<a href='http://www.historytoday.com/index.cfm' target='_blank'>Historytoday</a>
Or just go to a book store or library. You will learn far more accurate information if you lay off the news media and crack a book. Damned SunnyD generation... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Google isn't a news service. It just links to articles posted elsewhere. If the news is wrong, it isn't googles fault, especially considering the news frontpage is generated by a computer algorithim. If enough sites report the wrong information, google will report it.
TV news really doesn't matter <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
The internet is where I get most of my news, in that case it's either
<a href='http://www.cnn.com' target='_blank'>Cnn news</a>
or
<a href='http://www.bbcnews.com' target='_blank'>BBC News</a>
Ratfire
[tbZ]BeAst: The register said PRESS RELEASES are considered new sources. And of course, some companies have invested in Google. You can't seriously beleive that the google is being run by corporations trying try to buy the entire media or whatever you think. Google links to so many sources on the matter (at least 4 for each headline on the frontpage) that it won't just provide 1 source.
I'm at google news right now. Top Story?
Syria Pressure. The primary link goes to that ABC News. You're right, they're not a real news service, just a company thats paying google for to publish its point of view. Don't like? Just click '800 Related' and you'll get more corporate powerhouses like Channel News Asia, Canda.com, San Fran Chronicle, CNN, Financial Times, Sky News, South African Press, Taipei News...
EDIT
Removed mean stuff

Good Game. Next time, try making arugments with facts. I've found they work out much better that way. <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
/deep sigh.
Ok,

I'll refrain from trying to discuss in the discussion forum.
I wasn't aware that the written word could be smug - I was trying to be helpful.
Jammer all you know about me and my world view is what i've written here. Its certainly not enough to begin drawing conclusions from. For crying out loud, there's no need to jump to the defensive over an IT webby!
I'm no conspiracy theorist, I've never even heard of democraticunderpants or whatever. I was merely trying to provide a little snippet of semi-interesting info on the subject of "news" it was for you to draw your own conclusions from el Reg's article(s). It could have just as easily been on the domination of Rupert Murdoch and News International, or a link to the Inderpendent's site, indeed, the BBC has an award winning news site.
Ah well, in the absence of an NS "flames" forum, can I suggest you read what you've actually written before posting? Someone might easily get offended and I wouldn't want anyone to get a ban over a post in the discussions forum of all places...
now, how about a hug?
*HUG*
I was just annoyed that you seemed to be acting that way. Plus you said I was being inflamatory in another thread... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> No hard feelings.

I love it when people can admit their issues and apologize to each other. GG.

EDIT: after further consideration, I've decided to refine my thoughts. Please find a different source for your news gathering. At the least, find extra sources.
Trust me. You'd be doing yourself a favor.

The fact that we don't resort to flames, and can step back and see both sides is why I enjoy the NS forums in general MonsE. NS forums > all also.

Really, I'd tend to be looking at..
<a href='http://www.ananova.com/' target='_blank'>http://www.ananova.com/</a>
<a href='http://www.bbc.co.uk/' target='_blank'>http://www.bbc.co.uk/</a>

I do actually read The Sun btw, I feel it balances out the Guardians slight leftiness, and it's a sort of "know your enemy" thing..
Besides, they have naked women and excellent football coverage.
