Whats the best way to deploy mines? At the entrances to the base or around the buildings like IP's? If Around buildings, what buildings do u put them around?
I am a strong believer in putting mines at the entrance because of 3 reasons.
1. It protects everything without the chance of holes. With less mines in my view.
2. Stops gorges from rushing right next 2 your base and putting a ot up so it can hit your buildings. Also protects marines while they get ammo. (this could be good or bad)
3. If the aliens get fades 1 shot will not wipe out everyone at base.
Other:
When you have phase gates put a mine on top of it so if an alien uses it he will die.

If you put mines in entrances, you will need to spend the whole pack of mines to just block one door. It will only stop one skulk. If there is two skulks coming, the other skulk can do a suicide run and make a "hole" in that minefield, so the other skulk can go in.
Those mines doesn't stop gorges, because they can detonate them with spit.
Well yes, it is better idea when kharaa gets fades, but i dont think it is very good idea in early game.
What is good about putting mines around buildings?
If there is one marine protecting your base, he can protect it much better, when skulks can't jump in the middle of buildings and chase that marine without stepping on a mine. By that way those 5 mines are more usefull than placing them in one door.
thats just my .02
Oh one use is to protect ip's on low player games.
hehe
Anyway it's not so much about where you place them
More about who stands there guarding them...
hehe
Remember:Always have at least one marine guarding places they might attack ( if you have any spare ones that is )
OR have turrets
Turrets aint so bad people think...
But as with mines they don't get to their full power without a marine to help em
Secondly those mines are best to be placed near the buildings. Not all in the base of buildings but near em, so skulk has to be careful - again - not to step on that mine and marines may again notice it (and when shooting starts, skulk doesnt have so much time anymore to prevent those mines -> *BOOM*)
Anyways, using your head when placing mines is allowed. Saddest thing there is to see is bunch of mines placed high up in the ceiling so its very hard to detonate them even. Those laser beams wont kill the alien, the mine will.
PS: as a skulk I love to blow up mines with my face... It just costs them more to patch up holes.
Now all the single-minded people can start flaming me and calling me a n00b for building a TF ever, because turrets are obviously for nublets and should neve even be considered EVER.
The reason you dont put them on walls is because when one mine blows, theres a clear path through....
If you put them on the floor, skulks will mistakenly run into them whilst trying to chomp buildings.
Also, when skulks are fighting defending marines in base, theres a great chance theyll accidently step on a mine.
Believe me the most efficient and effective defence against skulks is to mine the floor around structures extensively.
Most two hive lock downs, first thing i put down is an armoury, and then some mines - makes things much easier for the comm.
However as the comm where should u tell the marines to put the mines.
I think I am going to try putting mines on the floor next time. The only problem is having someone that knows where to place them on the floor. Doors are simple(for most) maybe thats why I see it down alot on public servers.
As someone said previously. a fe on the floor, and a few on the wall to block an entrance. TF + turrets in base is not a great strategy cause it costs way to much res. It's probably bes tto keep on marine back and re-mine the doorway.
People aren't used to that so they dodge the ones on the walls and floor but forget the ones in the ceiling
