i r teh sux0r doggeh
i'm an awful skulk. i tend to go gorge, because my skulking is entirely unsuccessful. i can't even pack rush, or hida and para. i'm just awful!
hide in dark high areas and stalk your prey untill they haven`t noticed you and BANG! drop down and crunch on their bones!!
well... in theory. also where you are means a lot, like a big open space are death trap for skulks, marines long range weapons just shoot you as they run around in circles, small close corridors are more suited for skulks, to drop from a vent in the ceiling to take out some lone marine. pariste is good is great for eg, hes in the wrong place to take em out, like the end of a long corridor, so para em and wait and follow his blip untill somewhere else and pounce.
know your way around the map, quickly getting from a - b can be faster if useing vents, ns_tanith for example.
just wait for the time that marine or marines are not expecting an attack, or wait high up where they cant see u but u can see them, they run a bit and look around then when they ran passed you, thats when i like to drop down and munch their ankles, his team mate would probably turn around i may try for him or even dash backwards and down somewhere to regen and now hes all by himself, ehehehe chuckel.
Ahhaaaa skulking is easy to get good at once you have some pointers....
- In early game, do not go charging at a marine, you will die without additional armour ( i.e. carapace upgrade). Instead hang on cielings and wait for marines to strol out of base, and kill them from behind. If you hear a large group coming, wait till all the marines have passed, then drop down.
-When 3 defence chambers are up, get the carapace upgrade. Youll be able to charge lone marines on now, but its still risky. However carapace level 3 GREATLY increases your ability as a marine killer - i can regularly kill 3 marines with carapace 3 if ive already closed the distance.
-Jump jump jump strafe strafe strafe
-Two hives up - use leap often.... both to close distance to the marine and to cause damage to marine... Keep leap and bite binded to two seperate keys so you can interchange between them often.
-Id advise taking adrenalyn over celerity after two hives so you can leap more often. With more experience, celerity could be a better option but its a matter of taste. Silence is nice, but not much use when attacking marine positions as a skulk.
However i think the most important thing is - Practice skulk at two hives ... and resist the temptation to go fade. Skulking with two hives , with adren and leap ability is more fun than with one hive, and practice is always good.
Theres more but its better you learnt tricks on your own...
iknow the standard maps back to front now, so i know the good places to ambush,i just seem to suck one-on-one. will take advice about resisting temptation to fade tho
also, you don't happen to know the impulses for leap and bite do you?
hide hide munch. no plan? scout>>>munch rts/parasite/dont fill spawn queue cara always, leap always (with smidgins of every extra bit of weap dmg you can dish)
-If a marine jump-crouches, bite him while jumping or else you're more than likely to miss.
-Aim for the chest of a marine if he is standing (ie. look up while biting), I find it is easier to hit that way.
-Aim for a marine's toes if he is crouching, that seems to help hitting those damn crouchers.
-If you're standing on a marine while he's against a wall, hold down crouch so your bite doesn't get stuffed up by wall-walking (do this whenever attacking a marine in a vent too).
-Circle-strafe around a marine as you bite them, this will make it harder for them to hit you.
-If you have a high ping (higher than 100), make sure you bite before you come into contact with the marine, otherwise you might be past the marine by the time the server registers the bite.
-Learn to dodge effectively. Running straight at a marine is often lethal, for you. Also, just dodging on the ground wont cut it against the best marines, make sure you make good use of elevation changes too. One of my favourite ways to dodge up to a marine, is to jump up onto a wall, run along it for a very short while, then jump away from it, all while moving forward. This wakes you quite difficult to hit.
Hope that helps.
If your problem is in the middle of a fight, try various sensitivities till you find the one that is most efficent. The trick to skulking is paitence and using sound. Try and be as quiet as possible so you dont give away posistion, and at the same time, you hear marine footsteps. Sound is absolutely critical to successfully stalking an opponent. Use headphones for the best clarity, learn to know how many enemies are near by by listeing to clutters of footsteps. Learn when you cannot win, and need to retreat. The basic skulk is very weak, so take that into consideration when you attack, and dont be afraid to back off if you need health.
My main problem before I got a hang of it was that lost track of my target in the middle of a fight. I solved this by first picking out the marine I wanted dead first and charge for him. When I loose track of him, and I usually do, I just hop around biting in every direction until I spot a new target. The rule is: Never stand still once you have engaged them. Keep moving and biting even if you don´t know where they went. Also. Allways wait until they get really close together. That way they will block each others line of fire once you get in close.
1. Dont hold down the attack button. Only bite when the marine is in your sights.
2. Get a good soundcard and headphones or 5.1 speakers or something. Being able to hear the marines running/jumping/firing around you essentailly grants you 360° vision.
3. When the gunfire stops, back off from the fight, reaquire the target, and chomp him.
4. Get to know what orientations are required to stay hidden in the good hiding positions on the map. The skulk model as seen by others does NOT match up with your viewpoint.
Well, the most important thing about melee combat is developing situational awareness. That means paying attention to the environment around you, knowing where your target is, where you are, where you can and can't move. It's no surprise that you're a bad skulk if you don't have the situational awareness to realise that there's another post about skulk tactics on the same page as this one.
Best bit of advice I can give is to use your hivesight, if you stumble upon a group of 'rines setting up somewhere let your team know and wait for the backup to arrive. Once one of your teamies looks around the corner or charges in you'll be able to see the amount and exact location of every 'rine in the room, this is when you make your move. Not only will you know exactly where all of them are situated but they will also be distracted by your teamie and won't see you coming.
At 2 hives best thing to do when you see a marine is quickly aim at ceiling and leap. You have no idea just ho badly this screwes up their aim. On ceiling quickly look down and aim behind him and leap. Now circle strafe and bite him. Works every time.

as for the rest of you fine people, keep em coming, maybe we'll get a super duper skulk sticky!!
Try to lure them into ambushes, where you r in favour.
Try to get a gorg to give you 2dc's and an oc around some corner, get celerity+carapace. Find some marines, parasite one, and lure him to your place, there you chomp him
I pwnd a whole rine team at eclipse with that, (you go out rine left, first right, that's my corridor, at the end right i had my dc/oc backup, nice dark wall, 2 corners for emergency-run)
Ow, and try to work together with your team, tell them where marines r, parasite rt's/rines if u can before assaulting, so if u don't survive, u can be sure someonelse will finish it.
