lets look at that file...
thats odd, that file dosn't exist in my HL direct (do ing search to see if it is on my HD)
interesting I have one of those for each of my mods however none in siera/half-life
possibly it was in half-life\valve?
if that is the actual error msg go to that folder, RClick on the file, go to properties, make sure that is it not read only
also check to make sure your HD isn't full (ight click on your C: and go to properties)
oh, and basicaly it stores the info for menus and such in game (like fonts and stuff, so you could make your fonts all cool and stuff if you wanted <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)
well i checked that it wasnt read only, it was archive...in the halflife/valve mod..then what?
Im kinda confused how i can fix this..
Sorry for being an idiot, but thats just me <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> hehe.
Yeah and my C: isnt full, got 4 gigbytes left in it
Sorry
When i try to install NS, it says; the directory C:/sierra/half-life/ns/1024_textscheme cannot be opened. The system cannot find the path specified
Sorry i said C:/Sierra/Half-Life/1024_textscheme
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thx for the help
un archive it (I guess) and install
if you have a check box for 'archive' simply uncheck it and it should go
basicaly the instaler came acrose this file that it wanted to do something to (probably copy and then modify it or something, or possibly generate another bassed off of it)
You however had it locked up in some way (possibly you copied it off of a CD?) and thus it had couldn't touch it
I hopwe this does it
GL <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
right click on your Sierra Direct and see what the Attributes/permissions are on it
if one of em is archived or read only or something that is probably it
If it aint true for Sierra Try your HL direct <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> you probably have some sorta inheritanche deal going on
and if the installer goes alphabetivaly then that would be the first file it generates
(pls excuse my typing I am dead tired right now <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->)
Right now, the sierra directory itself is read only..you want me to uncheck that..and uncheck all read only files in the sierra directory and sub folders in it?
It takes 14 minutes..is this the right thing to do to make it work?
thx again lol.
Np about the typing
yup all subfolders (it will do it automaticly)
<!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
hehe, was I correct in guessing that you backed up your HL direct onto a CD then simply copied it on? (burning data onto a CD has the annoying tendancie to leave it as read only)
I actualy found this out by loading up my D2 saves and going from the 3 chapter to the end of the game and not getting it saved <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> (one sitting)
I did this like 2 or 3 times before I figgured it out
lol I am a TOOL <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
oh and no worries on keeping me awake I am waiting for my GF to finish up a paper <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
GL <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
I right click on Sierra folder, then i UNCHECK the read only box, so everybox from the attributes is not checked. Then i click apply...check the box to do the same for the subfolders, then click OK. So it does the loading thing and finishes.
When i go back to check, its rechecked on read only.
What to do..what to do..?
Give up?
Lol
what OS are you running?
Did you install HL from a CD?
Is this folder shared on a network? (Rclick-->props-->Sharing)?
what are the Security(permisions) settings? (rclick-->props-->Security)?
ok
GF is doen time to sleep if this dosn't fix it I will be back tomorwo
or posibly MonsE will check in (he will probably be able to help)
GL (again <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->) <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
Did you install HL from a CD?
Yes, i did install it from the retail Half Life CD. (Half life game of the year edition)
Is this folder shared on a network? (Rclick-->props-->Sharing)?
Its not shared on a network
what are the Security(permisions) settings? (rclick-->props-->Security
My computer has disabled all access to this computer from another computer.
Thats the info.
Hope you can help
What's your OS ?
hehe
The showing of hidden files is in different places depending on that
And other than that
Thansal, your babbling...
hehe
Aaw well
Gotta admire your optimism...
hehe
Argh.
But the more info the better
To show hidden files in that open a dir and press tools->folder options->the tab "view"->and then find "show hidden files and folders" and click that
the error is that after setting his HL dir to not be read only it sudenly becomes read only again
hmph, I am wondering if this is a glitch in XP or something else (I have never seen this prob before)
oh and OS = Operating System <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
lets see, try going through your folders (everything in the path of NS for me it is C:\games\Sierra\Half-Life\NS) and making sure nothing is read only <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
1. Open a command prompt (click 'Start | Run', then type 'cmd' and hit enter)
2. In the new command session, type 'c:' and hit enter (with no quotes)
3. Type 'cd\Sierra' and hit enter (with no quotes)
4. Type 'attrib -r *.* /s' and hit enter (with no quotes)
5. Wait for it to run through all the objects and finish, then close the command sesstion by typing 'exit' and hitting enter.
That will force all the files and directories to have the read-write attribute set.
Do that, reply back, let us know how it went.
This is a wierd problem, all my other mods that i have downloaded (sven coop, CS, TFC, Desert Crisis, Firearms) worked fine when i tried to install it :\
Nooo, i wanna play NS
<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
he actualy already did
wait, Grey, have you tried installing it after you ran the comand prompt stuff?
This is why I was talking about hidden files Thansal
<a href='http://files.redphive.org/ns_install_v1.exe' target='_blank'>http://files.redphive.org/ns_install_v1.exe</a>
Its reliability is above reproach...
The link that ya gave me..downloading at 6 kb/sec argh..over 4 hours :\
Ah, thx for the help guys, but i think ill give up. There are other people in other mods who will fall under the might hand of myself. ScrotumThegrey
